Am I smart or an idiot?

I keep thinking, including on this forum, that people think I’m an idiot. A lot of people tell me I’m smart but I think they’re just saying that.

So break it to me. What do you really think of me? Sorry this is such a weird question.

You don’t seem unintelligent but you do seem to be very insecure about your capabilities

How on earth would we be able to tell? This forum is not an IQ test.

I think he means by traits, does he exhibit anything weird. Sometimes I’m not linear with what people are thinking, other times Idc!

I’m here to help in this struggle against sz!

Wait: just my thoughts correct me if I’m wrong lol

The real issue here is that nobody can convince you of something that you don’t believe. You can have as much external reassurance as you want, and it will never work. You will always think you somehow tricked everyone into believing you are a certain way. This is universally true for everyone who has ever been insecure about anything.

Something that helps is engaging in an activity that utilizes that trait. Sometimes, the insecurity arises because I have gone too long without giving myself an opportunity to hone that trait. All our skills start to diminish over time when we don’t practice them. All our skills will start to grow again when we do practice.

Another thing that helps me in these moments is reminding myself that I can still be a worthy human being even if I don’t have whatever trait I feel insecure about. Maybe I really am bad at that particular thing. That’s okay. Nobody can max out all their attributes. When we focus intently on one skill, the other skills will diminish, because we don’t practice them. So, the areas where you are strongest and weakest should paint a rough picture of what your priorities are in life. That can change over time, too, as your priorities shift.

TLDR asking people if you’re smart will never make you feel better because you will convince yourself they are lying. You are the only one who can make you feel better.

Intelligence is a complex thing. Idiot was a scientific classification at one time of below 25 on some IQ test. It was a really low score. You probably would not be found to be one as you can operate the forum and use a camera and write sentences. On the other hand idiot comes from some latin or something meaning a person only interested in private affairs or something political like that. So it depends what you mean by idiot.

I mean idiot as someone who lacks creative, abstract, and logical skills.

youre probably decently endowed in those areas but you do have psychotic illness of the brain so give yourself some leniency in being self critical and what others think

Since I got ill and put on meds my creativity and intellect evaporated into oblivion, and my memory is partially gone too.

There is a book I knew I read it, but don’t remember a single word in it. It’s just weird.

Eh, cut yourself some slack.

You’re probably fairly smart if you can use a computer and form sentences.

Some people who have sz or other disabilities can’t do that.

Count yer Blessings, Lad. :dove:

To me ‘idiot’ and ‘smart’ are two different things. You’ve got some smart idiots and wise simple people.

I’ve done the all trying to prove that I’m smart thing by getting a Master in Economics when I was 21.

Now I’m passed that and just want to help people and have harmonious relationships.

I don’t care about IQ anymore. Some of the most evil people have very high intelligence.

What you believe is what you think :face_with_monocle:

There’s a big gap between being smart and being an idiot. So you should know which one you’re close to. Intelligence is actually on a spectrum though. Are you going to live your life by what we tell you? You shouldn’t. What if we tell you you’re an idiot? Are you going to walk around thinking you’re an idiot? I would hope not. You don’t believe anyone who tells you you’re smart so you probably won’t believe us either. I think you actually asked this question on here before and no one told you are an idiot. So that’s something.

It doesn’t matter if you’re smart or not, it matters what you do with it. Less time thinking that way and more time doing what you want.

You’ll only know if you’re smart if you apply yourself to something. Once you find the right material, social studies, social sciences, healthcare etc - then you know what you’re smart at. It’s not a simple - am I smart or not situation. That Einstein quote about making a bird go fish vs go climbing a tree or something like that comes to mind

If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?

I apply myself to artistic photography, knowledge of physics, and knowledge of neuroscience.

I’m 32

After school and early college years; does it really matter to you if others consider you smart or dumb?

I never completed school unfortunately. I may go back.

Sounds like you are smart. Why do you think you’re an idiot?

I feel like I’m clueless about life. A smart person sees beauty in everything around them. I’m like this, but probably not in the intelligent way, but the creative way. I want to understand the universe, but the more I learn it the less understandable it becomes. I just think my brain isn’t strong and is holding me back from my dreams.
