Hi all,
Im new to the website and have read through a decent amount of posts in the Unusual Beliefs section. I am posting because I have some issues that I want to talk about on the web before I talk to someone in real life about them.
Am I crazy?
I may have meditated my way into telepathy or I am not doing well. I heard someone’s thought the first time when I was 21 and am 27 now. The person walked up to me and said hello, but at the same time I heard on the inside “Beer”. In the sense that I basically heard the persons thought and yet we had a normal conversation the whole time.
I was deeply spiritual and into meditation and kind of took the whole experience in stride. It didn’t happen very frequently, but at some point the meditative way became deluded. I was buddhist and the experience has lost its “signs” a long time ago. You think of a friend and the person texts you. You read an article, jump into a conversation and someone brings up the topic. Things like this are gone. I just wonder how close the subconscious is to the surface. I have lost a lot of friends since this started and don’t know where to test whether this is real or not. I am just trying to keep it classy at this point and I’m in no rush to run up to someone in real life talking about telepathy. I went from an extrovert to an introvert. The only time the thought sharing has been confirmed recently was when I was with a girlfriend and I thought “dang I need to pee” and then she actually says “then just go to the bathroom then.” My jaw dropped. What a magical woman.
So I basically want to know if this is schizophrenia or am I actually picking up on other people’s thoughts. Some outlandish meditation groups say you run into sticky territory like this and I cant get help from them. I am wondering how much room for magic there is in this area. What are the chances Im schizophrenic or deeply sensitive. Can I actually hear other peoples thoughts?
Welcome. We aren’t doctors and most of us hit the health system pretty hard with psychosis. Insight is rare but not unheard of.
It’s basically about function. Are these symptoms causing you problems with function in your day to day life? If so then you need to get a referral to a psychiatrist from your local doctor. Psychosis isn’t pleasant and periods of it or depression are most likely brain damage. That is reason enough to seek some help.
I highly advice you to keep a record of this and go straight to a doctor, do not walk around untreated. I truly hope you listen to me. These can get worse and pretty bad. Go to a doctor and be completely honest about it.
You are experiencing delusions. It is the beginning of psychosis probably. If I were you would go to the clinic asap or even emergency room and print out what you just posted, because while going to a doctor you might change or forget your thoughts. You either experiencing psychosis or maybe onset of bipolar or schizophrenia.
Thanks for the honesty guys. I have a therapist and I am going to talk to her about it when I see her next week. If anyone else has opinions about my situation I would love to hear them. Thanks for the swift response as well.
Hi, it seems that you have some sort of psychotic symptom. The good news is, you may not have had a full on psychotic break yet, which means your medical intervention could have good success, please talk to a credentialed person, and ask for help.
Be forewarned medications aren’t a fix all, they have downsides and you’re going to want to give them probably several of them, a try and look for one that gives you the best result.
I know personally that it took 2 years before I felt relatively good, and a couple months per medication to find out if I thought I was better off, with the support of my families observations. Now I feel like I’ve got a good handle on things and now I just need to handle how I get from disability to functioning as a productive person and finding a partner and a career path that I can manage or evaluate if work won’t fit me due to stress responses.
