Am i really in america freely

as a person with major MI i feel like i am in a subdivision of america that is inferior to the “real” america.

i feel so like my privacy is abridged, my activities watched and judged and even as if others are trying to invade my life and boss me around because they just feel like it and all i am is someone with sz.

i have never done violence on anyone or property.

what exactly do we have for our civil rights even though we have sz?

I mean, that’s no different than people that are poor or people that aren’t white. America is far from as free as they like to pretend they are.

I’m not sure about some of the things you’ve said, but I know I have been asked a question or two by professionals that seem prying, inappropriate, and not related to my health at all. Maybe those are for studies or something but I was tempted to say something rude back.

To be clear, I’m talking about the professionals.

I was talking to my group therapist about being discriminated against because of mental illness and how much it bothers me. For instance, I have physical health problems, but the drs will only listen to my husband about it, and order tests and treatments based on what he says. My therapist said that maybe I do need someone to speak for me. That made me so mad.

It’s probably inappropriate for them to ask those questions, but I don’t think it rises to the level of a formal grievance. Just politely and deferentially tell the mental health professional that you would prefer if they didn’t ask those kinds of questions. If the pdoc persists after repeated efforts to get them to stop, then maybe you should think about filing a grievance.

Delete. If I can’t you cant.

@ifeelblessed sounds like you need somebody to talk to about this. I think it is still the best most free country there is. With problems yes. With freedoms abridged by too many laws, yes. But isn’t the government taking care of the disabled? No body is telling you what to do, except between the lines. Business laws in Calif. are atrocious and my hobby is severely threatened. I like it here and don’t want to live anywhere else.
Do you have a favorite place? Canada is a good place too. I always wanted to live on a desert island in the Pacific. But I get lonely. Real America may be a thing of the past, but so are the hard ships of the past. They seem to be trying but there is not enough money going around. I don’t mean to jam your feelings but jumped on the chance to express mine. It is only my opinion.

If you go out and do something normal people wouldn’t do because the voices are telling you to, you might get picked up by the police, thrown into the system and forgotten. If you can avoid doing abnormal things as a schizophrenic, you don’t have to worry about your rights being infringed. Easier said than done I suppose, the only real control we have over our situation is whether or not we take our medicine.

Yeah, I mean it wasn’t something completely terrible but I was thinking “what?”
