Alternatives to ativan?

Without it I am not consistently stable.

As for Seroquel, I’m asleep or don’t really have any life force.

I wanna try other anxiolytic options, anyone know something as good as a benzo but not one?

I really think that might be my magic bullet!

L-theanine and similar things, anyone got any personal experiences?

Gonna see pdoc in December and ask him about any of the stuff you recommend here. Making a list on my notepad.

Key, just like a benzo, but not addictive!

Gabapentin has been a good mild anxiety drug for me.

Beta Alanine. But I don’t know the long term effects. L-theanine is probably completely safe long term.

I take 1600mg beta alanine in the morning and it keeps my anxiety manageable for about 9 hours. Then I take 400mg L-theanine.

Buspar works for me.

I was about to @you because I knew you always recommend it. I might try it out, read about it a bit online so I can knock the pdocs socks off with my unusual knowledge of anticonvulsants. Yeah, also, you’ve said before that it has like libido effects or something, that might be a deal breaker for me, so we’ll put that down as a side note. I’m also gonna probably start googling phrases like “anticonvulsant mood stabilizers”.

everhopeful! Ever the L-theanine advocate!

Can you tell me, what have been your experiences of the drawbacks of L-theanine?

I know you said you have to take it very frequently…

I don’t think its very fast acting either, right?

Also, is there an issue of tolerance building up over time?

How good is it for sleep? I’m really struggling with insomnia lately!

You need to taper off it if you use large amounts or you could go loopy. I’m only taking 400mg a day now.

About 40 minutes.

I think there is.

It’s actually great for sleep. I take 400mg at about 9pm and even though I go to sleep around midnight it helps me sleep all night.

Thank you for the info!

Big question, is there any rebound anxiety when it is wearing off?

Just your normal anxiety returning.

To be honest I’d recommend beta alanine over L-theanine for anxiety. BUT like I said I don’t know the long term effects. I’m a guinea pig right now in that regards with respect to beta alanine.

Also I haven’t tried coming off beta alanine yet so don’t know how that would go.

The libido effects are opposite most drugs. They strongly increase my libido. But it’s not a commonly reported side effect, and I’ve only heard of it happening to girls.

Still tentative on it, but gonna ask the dude about something for general moods swings. Thats his big area so he’ll likely talk circles around me. It will be nice arrangement for that to be the case for once :joy:

*Talk circles around me and tell me what he thinks will be good

When I got my first benzo prescription my pdoc gave me a choice between Ativan and hydroxyzine. I’ve had hydroxy zine in hospitals before and does a good job with anxiety. I had it combined with clonidine which I heard also helps.

At home I’m on klonopin for anxiety.

I take clonodine as a prn for anxiety. It works pretty good for me.
