Almost a $40 mistake at the grocery store

I got up at 7:00 am to go grocery shopping. I always eat before I go shopping because I hear if you’re hungry while you’re shopping you’re more likely to buy extra food. I also make a list and stick to it, I hear that saves money too.

Today I picked up a beef roast I thought was on sale and some other things I thought were on sale. When I got to the check out line that lady rang me up and it was $90. I thought that was a little excessive, I only got a few items and I looked at the screen and noticed she had charged me $34 for the roast when I thought it was on sale for $19. I pointed this out: also she charged me $5 for the Ragu spaghetti sauce I thought was on sale for $1.99. I pointed this out too and she looked at the screen puzzled.

Then she figured out I had not entered my phone number in the mini kiosk or mini ATM or whatever it’s called. You gotta enter your phone number to get store members prices. So I entered my phone number and got all the sale prices and it was $50 total. If I wouldn’t have questioned her I would have paid $40 more. Whew! Almost a costly mistake.

Good job! I do everything you do plus I download digital coupons to my account associated with my phone number plus bring in store coupons and, if applicable, manufactures coupons. It helps a ton.

Kroger owned stores are doing this on purpose, it’s happened to my mom and me at Safeway dozens of times.

I do that too. I check the weekly circular ads and use the digital coupons and try to shop the sales. I couldn’t afford most meat without the digital coupons, I only buy meat on sale, I never pay full, regular prices.

one thing my dad taught me in business was to always ask questions and inquire. Ive found myself in similar situations… it never hurts to ask and often pays off. $40 is a lot of money. In some places in the world they only make like $7 a day so thats what a weeks worth of wages to some people?

Me too man. I was at Winco with my brother also in the early morning and got a lamb rack and didn’t realize it was $38. The cashier had to call another associate to refund it, and it took them a lot of effort haha.
