Agoraphobia

Pretty much the only time I leave the house is for work and I take my Ativan before every shift. I’m scared of having a panic attack when leaving my house.

Does anyone else deal with agoraphobia? How do you treat it?

I used to have a touch of it when I was younger. I tried using the “Attacking anxiety” program. I think it’s called “Attacking anxiety and depression” now. Maybe CBT could also help? I believe the Attacking anxiety program was actually a form of CBT.
You could try these.

What helped me the most to be honest was getting older and giving less of a ■■■■. Lol

Thanks for the reply Bowens. Your comment gives me some hope. I’m only 27 so maybe as I get older, it will get better. Thanks man.

to an extent. i freak out in public. open spaces is okay but no it;s not now. i believe i suffer this due to anxiety. i don’t know where social phobia is and agrophobia cross. i prefer to be inside either way.

I did. I quit work, school and cut way down on socializing. I stayed at home and just thinking about having to go do those things gave me anxiety and panic attacks.

I treated it with CBT and it worked 100%

I used the Attacking Anxiety and Depression program. A program I bought with my last $400 dollars. I did the program at home on my own which is the way it was designed to be done.

This was 20+ years ago.

I used to have it pretty badly.

I avoid crowds now and I avoid people but not as much as before.

I don’t go in to the city etc

I do my grocery shopping early morning weekdays when it’s less crowded.

There was a time I couldn’t do my own shopping.

yes i do my shopping early mornings here.

i think back then they’d just wonder. whats the kid in the clash shirt doing here again? carton of smokes? now i feel like my voices has inturned me. it’s been bad and i’m as lone as back then but there were intervals. now. i don;t know. committed is what i have to worry about.

My gf had it real bad for about a decade. She started to get better not long before meeting me. She gets out a lot more now. Anyone can change! Nothing is set in stone.

I get uncomfortable when I leave the house but I don’t need meds for it. So, I guess I don’t qualify as agoraphobic.

A lot of preparation - PRN - dog - over ear headphones - mask helps alot if I have to be out.

I’m scared to leave the house without my husband to protect me. So my current mental healthcare goal is to become self sufficient and be able to go out on my own. I’ve recently been going out with a friend of mine and also my daughter. It’s very difficult but I’m not giving up

Yeah I’ve had a serious case of agoraphobia all throughout my childhood through my 20s and 30s.
I still have agoraphobia but as I got older it’s much better now.
