Agoraphobia, doctors appointment

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and i’m having anxiety about it. I have agoraphobia and l fear leaving the house and having a panic attack. I’m going to take my benzo Ativan before I leave the house.

Anyone else have agoraphobia?

Not anymore, but I used to have a touch of it when I was younger. I never feared leaving the house, but I got very uncomfortable in certain situations. Don’t really want to go into detail but, as I posted on the forum a few weeks ago, I had a bit of an attack at guitar lesson then. I have not had one since.

Good luck with your appointment @TheCanuk

I’ve had it a couple of times. Once for about 6 months before I was diagnosed and again about 6 years later for about 5 months. It went away gradually both times but I remember how much it sucked. I feared leaving the house and most situations have made me uncomfortable my whole life. But I do what I have to do. If I had some tips for getting over it I would give them but I just had to force myself to go out.

Glad you don’t deal with it anymore.

Thanks. I’ll let the forum know how it went when I get home. Hoping I get my refill for Ativan. And im gonna ask to get my blood pressure taken. I wanna see if this daily running im doing is keeping my BP low.

Maybe it’s not accurate to say that I am completely over it though. Like I said, I DID have a bit of an attack at guitar lesson a few weeks ago. It hadn’t happened in a long time prior to that. IDK. It’s not like it used to be though.

Yes, let us know how it goes.

I did badly and it was awful. I was so bad at one point I was taking 2 mg ativan to be able to go to the doc or store. I would tremble before going out the door.

I sometimes really hate leaving my house but I can face it.

Canuky my life changed for the better when I stopped taking all that Ativan. It was causing me blackouts. I had just been taking it waaaaay too long. I hated it, but was addicted to it. I’m happy with the way Cymbalta works on my anxiety, no sedation. It’s not perfect, but I manage alright.

Yeah im diagnosed with schizophrenia and agoraphobia. Im afraid to talk to people too. It’s too much to go back to the doctor anymore.

Thank god! This is good news. I was thinking back to how it was for me. Be careful Canuky. I care about you because you are a gentle young man that the world would be better to have more of.
