How long after your diagnoses /getting meds stabilized did you start to feel like yourself or just start to feel better ? I’m afraid it will never happen for me. Thanks
Sorry to hear your worried about not getting better… I worry about not getting better too… Some days are better than others. Meds and therapy are helping. Its been about 6 months and I’m feeling better other than some depression.
How old are you? If you are young there are plenty of opportunities.
If you are older, sometimes the best solution is to get familiar with your own mental illness.
It can be a long and tortuous way to find the right meds and treatment.
It took me a couple years to get stabilized on meds. Haldol didn’t do jack for me. And it took me awhile to accept the fact that I was sz and that I needed meds. I’m still not quite myself because of the negatives but as far as positive symptoms go, I’m symptom free now.
Same for me. 15
To be sincere, I have the same concern. However, I feel like my former self when I do or pursue the things I want or wanted previously. I used to work a lot, and for myself, build businesses, socialised, attended exclusive parties etc. And when I was diagnosed and told I could no longer do that. I died. I fell into a deep depression and had wanted to (use your imagination).
I took a lot to rebuild myself and I am still rebuilding. I will also start therapy again as I still struggle with accepting myself. However, I went back into education, got a degree, currently finishing my masters and rebuilding my businesses. I find that just having direction helps. I exercise regularly, and maintain a lifestyle that is consistent with my needs and values. What that is will be different for everyone. For me was exercising my mind and being creative, therefore all of my pursuits were aligned with that.
…although I do still hear voices sometimes as well as have delusions.
