How do you deal? Any tips?
Can you clarify what you mean?
I become attached to people. When they travel, I become very anxious. My husband used to come home and visit during work because I was a mess while he was gone. Now, we talk every few hours on the phone. I have a very difficult time being away from my children, my parents, my sister’s family, my pastor, my best friend, and my counselor. I become very afraid. I become irrational in my thinking. I lose reason. I “cry out for help”, and it worries people.
I feel same when my family go out of home, I calm down myself with praying for them,
“God is the best protector and kindest of the kind”
AMEN! Thank you!
@FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter, is it a fear of abandonment?
Does that mean I’m afraid I will be left alone forever?
I think it means you should try to learn to feel more comfortable with yourself.
I think alot of people get anxiety when they are away from the people they love.
It’s just a normal reaction, think of cats and dogs when you come home they are so happy because they don’t know where you went or when you are coming back.
Okay. Thank you @nfy
Yes. That’s a huge part of fear of abandonment
Do you know how I address fear of abandonment? Do you have any practical tips?
I’ll ask my best friend. She has fear of abandonment due to BPD and she went through a one year class that helped her tremendously. I’ll get back to you on it.
I have abandonment issues as well.
I’m getting a bit better though.
I know how you feel @FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter.
@FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter @Wave Here is an article about it. My friend is coming over and I’ll ask her for more tips that she learned in her class. Hopefully she remembers them.
Very helpful!
Thanks @LilyoftheValley!
@Wave @FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter. My friend says it’s a whole year once per week Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. She suggests looking for one in your area. It takes a long time to overcome it but with work it can be done.
Yeah I miss my mom when I’m not in CA. I text her to keep in touch.
Yeah I don’t have borderline but maybe DBT could help me.
Thanks @LilyoftheValley!
You are so kind, thoughtful, considerate, and generous to take the time and effort to respond, and research, and talk to your friend!! I feel less alone because you care!! THANK YOU!
That article is a GREAT read!! Thank you!! I can look into a DBT workbook. I don’t have time to take a course.
@Wave and @agent101g
I’m sooo sorry you struggle, too!! It’s VERY hard!
Thanks @FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter, that’s an excellent idea!
Maybe I’ll get a DBT workbook also!
