About hair and hygiene

Hey, members who are growing out long hair!! Do you have any super duper good tips on how to achieve maximum length and maintain beauty?

One of the better tips I’ve discovered:
Keep a hair mask on before washing for as long as possible. Even up to 5 hours (for example, on a day off when you’re home and don’t have to go anywhere) – then your hair becomes super soft, even for several washes afterward. The mask doesn’t need to be fancy or special – just a simple one that suits your hair.
Also… no at-home coloring. I’m starting to realize that the salon is a good option – but sadly, it’s really expensive.

And a question about hygiene:
I’ve noticed that deodorants don’t work well for me. They cause strong allergic reactions – itching, skin irritation… So I decided to stop using them completely. I read that during the first few weeks there might actually be more sweating until the skin adjusts. Has anyone else completely stopped using body deodorants?

How Long Can Human Hair Grow?

The maximum length human hair can grow depends on a person’s genetics, specifically the duration of their hair growth cycle. Hair grows in phases, and the most important one for length is called the anagen phase, or the growth phase.

For most people, the anagen phase lasts between 2 to 7 years. However, in some rare cases, it can last up to 10 years or more. During this time, hair grows continuously at an average rate of about 1 to 1.5 centimeters (around 0.4 to 0.6 inches) per month.

So, in theory:

  • If someone has a 7-year anagen phase and grows hair at 1.2 cm/month, their hair can reach up to around 100–125 cm (about 40–50 inches) in length.
  • For someone with an unusually long anagen phase (like 10 years), hair could potentially grow over 150 cm (around 60 inches), depending on genetics and health.

After the anagen phase ends, hair enters a resting phase (telogen) and eventually falls out to make room for new growth.

The longest documented hair belongs to Xie Qiuping from China, whose hair reached 5.62 meters (18 feet 5 inches) in 2004. But this is extremely rare and likely due to a uniquely long anagen phase combined with special care to prevent breakage.

In summary, most people’s hair naturally stops growing once it reaches a certain length determined by genetics — and that usually takes several years, often between 4 to 10 years, depending on the individual.

I had long hair once and I can recommend to wash them regularly

I’ve always had short hair so nothing to add lol longest my hair has been is maybe 3 inches. That was one time tho. Most of the time it’s maybe 1cm.

I use a hair masque after I shampoo and before I use my moisturizing conditioner. I only use it on my ends though. It helps a lot but is too much for my hair if it’s from the roots down or if it’s in my hair more than a few minutes.

In regards to deodorant I use Native sensitive skin formula. They don’t put baking soda in their sensitive skin ones so it doesn’t burn my skin like most natural deodorants and also like regular antiperspirants do. You might want to give it a try. It’s definitely worth it.

I used to do hot oil treatments when I was in high school.

I don’t know if that’s still a thing.

It made my hair soft, I think.

I’d buy the little tubes at the drug store and run them under hot water for a bit. Then you’d put it in your hair and wait like 10 minutes before rinsing it out.

Nowadays I think not washing my hair everyday helps keep it from drying out.
