Abilify weight loss

I’ve been on abilify for about two weeks, and in that time I’ve lost nearly 10 lbs. It seems with this medication, I have little or no appetite. I have protein bars that I eat for each meal because I know I have to eat, but my calorie count has fallen to around 1000 calories a day. Along with this, I have the considerable side effect of akathisia (inner restlessness, propensity to move constantly), which I think has contributed to my weight loss.

Now for me, I could lose a considerable amount of weight, so this is fantastic for me. I’m just wondering how many of you have experienced this side effect, and if it wore off with time.

Oh, and I’m on Abilify 10mg a day.

Just make sure you eat…I was forgetting to eat on a med that was doing about the same to me…I was just too busy pacing and fell out one day…also making my heart beat funny…does your doc weigh you and stuff…I know your happy about weight loss but keep an eye on it too fast is no good…

I experience the same. I have no appetite until about 7pm, and if I try to eat before that time, I feel sick to the stomach.

That’s my problem. I’ve had to start zofran again from the nausea.

Yes Abilify made me lose weight when I was on it. Also, I could walk for miles on it as well. I ate all I wanted to on abilify and still didn’t gain weight. The only issue was no libido at all, that’s why I quit it and went back on risperidone consta. Also abilify gave me energy.

I’m typically upside-down again on the meds issue, and no surprise here that I had to stop Abilify due to over sedation and weight gain.

Ah yes, chronic walking syndrome, I do this, walk for hours at a time sometimes repeated more than once throughout the day (on days I don’t have work, on the days I do have work I feel very pent up),

I read that abilify causes restlessness, but nowhere did I read that it causes intense need to take off walking for more than an hour on a daily basis…

I’m glad I’m not the only one with chronic walking syndrome.
On the plus side, my smartwatch keeps track of my walking and it vibrates and sends me a nice message whenever I reach a level of steps and it’s been very pleased with me.

I also have no appetite at all on Abilify. This is the second time I’ve been on it, a day I believe I lost about 15 lbs the first time… About 3 years ago and that was on the 5mg gelcap. This time I’m on the 10mg sublingual, and just have no appetite (Thank God). All of my other meds were making crave sweets, and I’m not generally a fan of sweets, so I welcome this change. I’ve had to combat the extreme restlessness with .5mg of Clonazapam for now, just so my body can rest. Although I do have to say that “Chronic Walking Syndrome” doesn’t sound too bad, except for the fact that I have an extremely bad left knee.
I’ve only been back on Abilify for about a week, so we’ll see if there’s any weight loss this time. I’m sure hoping there is…I stand to lose 30.
Does anyone have any updates? I’d love to hear how it’s going for you so far.

Hi, still losing weight, and happy about it. Trust me, the walking isn’t comfortable. It’s a very restless feeling, like you’re physically anxious. It’s awful.

I went up 15 pounds or 25 pounds taking invega and switched to Abilify and haven’t gained a pound for the first month but I’m going to try to switch to Latuda aka lurasidone because I heard good things about that

I haven’t gained weight nor lost it on abilify (10mg). But I exercise and eat like a pig. I think I would blow up if I didn’t exercise. At first when I started it, I lost my appetite and could not eat much at a time, but that effect went away now (plus, I don’t know if it was the abilify or celexa).

So you’re on multiple medication so you couldn’t tell if one caused weight gain or the other :confused:

@strwwberry. Yes, I gained lots on risperidone. Risperdone gave me constant hunger. I’m now 10 stone, when I was on risperidone I was 15 stone.

I just started Abilify a week ago and not only did my appetite diminish, I have way more energy than I ever did, I can’t complain!!

I am on multiple medication, and have no appetite. I don’t know which med has this effect

I have been on Abilify for 3 days now. I have no apletite at all & my stomach feels weird. The only reason I eat is because I lift weights. I got on abilify for Mood Disorder. _

This medication is haven sent for me iam start feeling like myself the only problem is I need loss wiet I am up to 154 an need get to 114 lbs Dr orders but how I don’t feel like eating I have gone 3 days without eating drank lots of water but still haven’t loss any instead gan 2lbs very high energy clean my house so much lol I do have lower back pain an problems need surgery that why have to lose the Dr told if I can get to 114 they would do my surgery which would help me feel even better.grr iam get flutter I try to do 30min walk ing ever day but the pain is too much can anyone tell anything that could help me get to 114lbs?
