Abilify and Impulse Control šŸ‘¹

Thanks for your reply @anon1243761 and hope your med combination is working for you :+1:.

They’ve tried to prescribe me lithium in the past, but I said no due to the blood work and effects on teeth and kidneys. Might have to look into it again though.

I would definitely remove abilify and try a dopamine antagonist instead of a dopamine modulator. NAC and an SSRIs might help also.

Thanks for the advice @AmICrazyYet :+1:

I was on 50mg Zoloft but my pdoc took it off the list because it could potentially cause mania, although I don’t think it has in my case. Will look into a possible med change :+1:.

Yeah, it could very well be Abilify unfortunately. Time to have a talk with your psychiatrist…

True and thanks @everhopeful :+1:

I see her today actually. The funny thing is I have a lot on my plate at the moment and I dunno if a med change would help or just do more harm than good.

It’s a tricky situation, but I will try to explain it to my pdoc :+1:

Yea I waste a lot of money too lol If I have money it feels like I have to spend it. I buy a lot of stuff of Amazon on an impulse. But I’ve been doing a bit better lately by hiding my money.

Out of sight out of mind.

It’s a vicious cycle @POET, but I’m glad the money-hiding technique is working out for you :+1:.

Are you on Abilify as well?

It’s not easy in the slightest and I’m sorry you’re going through similar times also. Are you on Abilify @MisterApple?

Pdoc just prescribed Risperdone as an add-on for mania and impulsivity so maybe it will help on my end.

Hope the pdoc listens to you and helps you :+1:

I lost lots of money due to mania. I was on and off with meds. As with the disorder I was not able to follow the meds regularly. It was a strange that all of a sudden I stopped my spending activities by fixing a physical deformation which caused low self esteem and mental health issue to begin with. I am still wondering how the heck I spent so much and not able to be in control. Now I am little wise on it.

Sounds like a really difficult situation @Melomaniac. The aftermath of mania is probably the toughest thing to deal with for sure. It can be scarily easy to spend lots of money during an episode— unfortunately I know from experience . Glad to hear you’re taking some steps to prevent it from happening again :+1:

Yup! Been on abilify for about 3 years now maybe… It’s a good drug for me. I’m taking 5mg and doing well. That reminds me I forgot to take my pill today and yesterday lol. Thanks for the reminder

Glad to hear you’re doing great on Abilify @POET! I agree— it’s a good med, it’s just the impulse stuff that sucks about it.

Happy to help with the med reminder

I have some advice, ive jsut noticed im not as impulsive on trazodone. It raises seratonin apparently which seems to help with motivation or decision making.

Anecdotally speaking, im calmer and less impulsive with raised seratonin (if the respiridone doesnt work out, something to talk to a pdoc about?)

Interesting! It’s good to know there are other options out there, so will keep the trazodone in mind. Thank you and glad it’s working a bit for you :+1:
