A turning point in my recovery

The past few weeks I’ve felt like I’ve been winning. I realised that the one thing this illness hasn’t taken is my attitude. I began to distinguish between what is the illness and what is me recently.

I realised mental illness has an agenda: to pull you down and make your life as difficult as possible. Your role is to realise that this illness is not “you” at all, its just pretending to be you, and you must retake control and set the agenda again. I have now found myself and I am in control, that was a real turning point.

It is good that you are well on your way to getting past this illness. It is surely a triumph to not let it dampen your spirit.

It’s good that you have the ability to think objectively… Though subjectively can get you places too.

Very wise. Good for you and good on you for sharing :grinning:

Good for you! Separating myself from my illness and taking an ‘ego stand’ against it, was a turning point in my recovery.

It helped me to think of my illness like an immature child throwing temper tantrums and trying to get its way by misbehaving and making my life difficult. Alternating between ignoring and standing up to it helped slowly fade my illness into the background.

So glad to hear this. I am at this point where I Need to realize this and accept it again because Im experiencing bereavement. I am better, and it has made me stronger to be given these tests of strength, to realize all humanity is constantly being tested for strength, and even in humility and weakness there is hope.

That’s a good approach to some of the more demoralizing aspects of sz. Just say, It’s not me, it’s my disease.

Hello to all I am new here…lol
However I would like to comment on this post which is very nice and I wish this person well…
BUT…I must say that ME being BORN with this illness kinda sets me apart …
Also when I say BORN I mean it was ACTIVE since childhood and TWO car accidents with NO seatbelt(when as a child)
made sure that it would STAY active…lol!!
Anyway I just want to say to you part timers…
Grow up or Grow a pair!!!
This is NOT an insult it is a challenge!!
You have to be like DR.WHO on T.V.!!
Yes!!..You have to GO INTO your own mind and find yourself…kinda like SPACE TRAVEL or TIME MACHINE…lol
How would one do this…hmmm …meditation (sitting) (standing) (laying) …it matters not
You see BECAUSE you have have this illness…it has OPENED UP parts of your brain that you are NOT supposed to used…(for this realm or reality at least)…yes my friends you have access to a little more PERCENT of your brain than is allowed…
That is why most of the drugs they give us …shuts us down or makes it hard to think even COMMONLY…lol…
Thats all for now…but I leave this question to the MODERATORS!!!
IF ONE LIKE ME IS ((BORN)) ACTIVE…THEN WHAT WOULD YOUR MEDICATION RETURN ME TOO???
MY NORMAL IS MY REALITY WHICH IS SCHIZOPHRENIA…good bye…lol

That’s great man.
