A question re cooking steak with strimmings

Due to my less than good skills when comes to coordinating things cooking wise I very seldom do this, but tonight I’m going to try doing steak with trimmings( chips, mushroom, onion rings and tomatoes) . Mushrooms are sliced ,frozen mushrooms. Onion rings are also frozen.

How do you go about cooking such a meal? Methods welcomed.

What type of steak will you be cooking with?
Ribeye? Strip? Filet? Chuck?

Describe your kitchen do you have a deep fryer or a pot for oil or an air fryer?

Good question, but I have absolutely no idea. It was part of that lot of meat I mentioned getting, with no info as to what sort of steak. An educated guess though says it’s not an expensive cut of steak.

I have an air fryer I seldom use.

I use a sous vide, which is temperature-controlled cooking of vacuum-sealed food in warm water. I can immersion cook a really cheap steak for 24 hours and then flash sear it before serving. It comes out done exactly right and the immersion cooking slowly breaks down the proteins and tenderizes the meat without taking it above the desired doneness level (medium rare in my case).

This is a bulletproof way of taking cheap cuts of meat and making them present like much more expensive cuts. You also hit the target doneness level every single time.

@shutterbug beautiful description of sous vide cooking. However I have to say I think that in this situation given that we do not even know what type of meat we are cooking with sous vide may be the application of a system that is significantly more advanced than necessary. I would advise searing the steak off on both sides on high heat to get a good color on both sides I would do this in butter then I would put the pan into the oven at 350° for about 15 minutes well periodically testing every 5 minutes to see how cooked the meat has become

As for the chips for the onion rings you will need some fat to deep fry them in I would use the air fryer if they were prepared properly but I don’t think that you’re in a position to do that

First I heavily season each side with salt and pepper while a frying pan heats with butter or oil. I use 1 tablespoon of the butter or oil.

When the pan is very hot, I put the steak in and sear both sides until there is a brown crust.

Then I put in an oven that is 300f for about 15 minutes. That makes a medium steak. Well done, leave for 20 to 25 minutes.

I saute the mushrooms and onions in the same pan, add another pat of butter. Cook until wilted/soft.

Yeah thats basically my advice. Well said @anon4362788

Lol, I just saw yours after posting. I think it’s pretty universal on how to make a simple steak. It’s when you get fancy it gets complicated.

Sorry for my advice likely not being helpful. My straightest path from A to B usually involves creating some sort of tear in the fabric of spacetime.

Your advice might have helped others that are interested in knowing how best to cook a steak. No harm done. The meal was OK, apart from the steak being rather tough(cheap cut ?)
