A question for those of you that take pills

Im on the injection and i want to switch to pills my question is how do you keep from missing a dose especially in between refills? Do you get a refill when you have like five pills left? Does the pharmacy/insurance let you do that?

I always keep a supply of pills. Here they give you plenty of pills as long as you are not a suicide risk.

My pharmacy and my pdoc work together to make sure refills occur before I run out of meds, and they send me a text when it’s time to pick up a refill.

I have a note taking app on my phone and simply note that I’ve taken my medication on a given date. Stuff still happens. The last statement is a de facto fact.

I can pick up my prescription when I want at least up to 3 boxes at a time. Just got to make sure I renew the prescription. I usually go get new medication well ahead of running out.

I use a medication reminder app. It’s very helpful because I have a terrible memory

It depends on the rules in your state. Some drugs in my state could probably get a refill with 5 left. Others aren’t refilled until the supply literally runs out. I’ve had trouble before with 30 pills covering 31 days. Sometimes they gave me a pill or 2 to tide me over until I was allowed to have the rest.

Right when I have a fresh, new, bottle of pills in my hand, Thats when I get on the phone to the pharmacy and order another bottle. By doing it this way, I never run out of meds. One of my nurses from 20 years ago taught me to order my meds this way.

I have to do it this way because I’m dealing with the government, and they are incredibly slow. It takes a day or two for them to process the order, another day or two for them to fill it, and 7 to 10 business days for them to send it to me in the mail. And all that is plenty of time for a bottle of pills to run empty. Especially when they don’t give you very many to begin with.

Automatic refills. I get most meds shipped to me every three months automatically, then I get a note to pay the bill. The only catch is that if I change meds but have refills on old ones, I have to remember to cancel them. I also utilize my local pharmacy if I need it quickly. The mail service takes a couple of weeks to start up.

I know exactly what you are talking about. They can be slow. :tropical_fish::tropical_fish::tropical_fish:

I have to reorder mine through the mail with the Va. I have to remember to do it because it takes a while for them to get here.
