A diet would do me good, or more medication for me

I am overweight, have high cholestoral, triglycerides, blood pressure, and my blood suger levels are starting to get high to. I think if I diet it will control all of these. I did it before and have pictures of me when I lost wieght. My current physician told me that I will not keep up with my diet and put me on medication for cholesteral, blood pressure, and triglicerides. They lowered everything but did not get me into the normal range. I became stiff because all of them affected my muscles. Now my suger is getting high around 128 fasting, and 148 after meals. I have a physical in a month with my physician and I know after he sees my blood results he probably will want to put me on 4 medications. He knows I take medication for mental illness and says I need these also like I need the medication for mental illness. The only thing I love is excersize and it helps some with my health, but a diet will have me craving all the things i stop untill I get used to it.

I lost 70 lbs. There were many positive things as the result of losing that weight. And to be honest, it was not that hard with the diet I used.

I gained some of it back. But I started my diet over at the beginning and now I have 16 lbs more to lose.

Good job @77nick77, you should be proud of yourself for sticking with a diet and managing to lose weight, even on antipsyhotics. This is a big achievement.
@Dude1 if taking medications helps, why not - I am diabetic and take meds for blood sugar control (Metfromin) and high cholesterol and high blood pressure, but I have decided to change my eating habits and go low carb from now on - I am determined to lose some weight, even on Risperdal

Yeah, I’m on Resperdal too. I was on it when I lost the weight.

So I guess it is possible to lose a substantial amount of weight, even on Risperdal - good to know

A healthy diet is a must for anyone and everyone. I myself eat more than most people but I am muscle bound and I need more protein than most people. That and my workouts are truly challenging, I have to drink carbohydrate powders to manage my level of exercise, and I havent gained any weight since last semester, I dont have time to eat all that much and eating a lot makes me think a bit less sharply.

For example I just had a steak with mushrooms, a piece of salmon and a baked potato with ranch dressing. That is not healthy for normal people, but when you have a 30 in waist and a 44 in chest and also have to wear relaxed fit jeans for bulky legs, it is okay.

I look like I play football or am into MMA. Well I used to be a fighter and then I moved on to powerlifting, now I just do bodybuilding/endurance routines to stay built. Im 5ft7 180lbs.

I take Geodon, it doesn’t seem to effect my appetite or make me gain weight. I used to be 160 lbs, I had to eat a LOT to get to 180.

Are these meds keeping your sugar and cholestoral in the normal levels or close enough. When I took blood pressure, cholestoral, and trygliceride meds my blood pressure was ok but my Physician was not quite satisfied with my cholestoral, tryglicerides, and suger even though they lowered my cholestoral and triglicerides I still was not in the normal range which he wanted. He also told me to go on a diabetic type diet.

Diabetic diet woud be a low carb diet - Low carb diets are pretty healthy, I am eating low carb now -My meds for sugar control, cholesterol and high blood pressure etc… keeps things pretty normal for me - they work, without a lot of side effects. Give it a whirl! @Dude1

ive been on risperidone and amisulpride the longest and put on substantial weight whilst on it. i only managed to get the weight off once i got off meds. on amisulpride it was impossible to do cardio cos of side effects. side effects were the biggest problem for me…stiffness and always feeling hungry.
once i got off meds, i sorted out my diet and started working out, i lost about three stone (42lbs) in two months.

Getting off of meds is not an option for me

think on risperidone its mainly a good diet, regular exercise and being active. also watching out on the amount you are eating like snacking and what not. idk if there are meds to counteract the hunger problems of the med. all i know is i put on weight for sure on it

42lbs in two months wow you must feel a lot lighter.
