.here in Ireland we have free healthcare, but every time I go to the psych hospital to get admitted, the hospital tries to persuade me as much as possible to not to get admitted as they want to save the state some money
how does this compare to the US, as you guys have to pay for healthcare, can you get admitted to psych hospital when you feel the need or do they try to turn you away…
I was told I could go walk into generally any hospital with a psychiatric ward and state I’m having hallucinations and delusions, and they would definitely let me stay. That’s what I was told, anyway.
In my experience with the mental health system in the U.S. I’ve found that when I didn’t want to go to the hospital they took me there in a police car wearing handcuffs. When I did want to go they seemed unimpressed with my mental turmoil.
In the state I live in (Oregon) there aren’t nearly enough psych beds, so it takes a lot to get admitted. You pretty much have to be actively a danger to yourself or others. Just having psychotic symptoms that you’re not able to deal with isn’t enough. They’ll just set you up with outpatient treatment.
In USA they always have admitted me. However when I had private insurance through my work the insurance company would fight to get me discharged as early as possible.
No police car for me, but always some form of restraints in the ambulance ride.
Like I’m dangerous because I’m schiz. ■■■■ that. Most times it was near complete restraints. Last time I convinced them to only use foot restraints.
You honestly think things would be better for you if you didn’t have the option of getting free health care? You can pay for your health care if you want to, just like any American. You’d probably end up paying less even if you went down that road. If it’s really serious, you’ll get treated for free. I don’t get your logic.
Here in the States it’s easy to get admitted to a psych ward especially if you have good insurance.
The psych Hospital kept me for a while because I had a strong insurance plan.
The healthcare system in the U.S. is all about greed.
It’s highway robbery!
Had a friend that was jobless and moneyless. The hospital refused to admit him. Even though he had never been. Undiagnosed and was hearing voices to hurt people. They sent him away with a prescription that he refused to take is now withdrawn and has no intention of getting help. All because the state doesn’t want to pay. State funding leads to things like this, abortion and youthanizing the sick and elderly. This was in the US
He has a full time job now so he’s more motivated than most. He needs help and in this case it would have payed for the state to pay the bill . As far as I know he takes no assistance lives with his family but is even withdrawn from them. There was an opportunity to get him on his feet
