I refuse to see such claims that are degrading and are not based on scientific research, I have an over average IQ and know of some people who also do, yes we get more distracted than others but that doesn’t mean we are any less smart. If your negative thinking is a spreading desease over here I think you are the one who should be banned. All hopeful all positive. That would be the vision should this forum be administrated by me. And suchlike comments wouldn’t be tolerated at all. Cheers.

I read the biography ‘A Beautiful Mind’ some time ago. It is very, very different than the movie. The book is a good read, but it shines a light that John Nash’s illness was way more disabling than it was portrayed in the film. The film is definitely a Hollywood version of his life.

I thought about this before. I thought those hallucinations were too complicated. I don’t how anyone could have such intricate and detailed visual hallucinations. And you know Hollywood. Dramatizes everything. I’ve heard lots of people say it was dramatized and exaggerated. Given the Hollywood treatment. .

Most people I know who I know have schizophrenia are highly intelligent. So it’s not my personal bias. I also find them easier to get along with. Schizophrenia doesn’t define the whole population as the same, but is a disorder that is still misunderstood by most.

If your brain is forced to compensate you tend to have different gifts or savant like talents. For instance I have a friend who can take apart engines, and I’ve seen him fix cars. He’s mostly self taught. I knew another person with schizoaffective and he could take apart computers and put them back together piece by piece. I helped him start gaining confidence I think but I broke up with him because it wasn’t working out.

He was really sweet though. I kind of miss him.
He was also autistic so he’d have outbursts sometimes and arguments with his mom. I feel like most people with schizophrenia could be able to control their symptoms with proper therapy medicine and guidance. You can still be intelligent even when psychotic your intelligence is diverted to delusional and paranoid thinking but some people can learn to focus without hallucinating by developing self control techniques meditation and psychotherapy.

but i am a genius… :man:
i put my pants on today !?!
oh wait… they are over my trousers again…damn it !?! :scream:
take care :alien:

Actually, he is not.

The article says nothing about what he posted. That just came out of his ass. Mortimer mouse posted that the average iq for schizophrenics is 84. ( if I remember correctly).

According to the first result of googling “mental retardation iq”:

Mental deficiency used to be divided into the following sub-classifications, but these labels began to be abused by the public and are now largely obsolete: Borderline Deficiency (IQ 70-80), Moron (IQ 50-69), Imbecile (IQ 20-49) and Idiot (below 20). Mental deficiency is now generally called mental retardation.

I agree low iq has something to do with psychosis but so does giftedness.

“People with schizophrenia span the full range of intelligence. In fact, one study reported that a higher than expected number of people who develop schizophrenia had been intellectually gifted children. Research suggests, however, that a decline in IQ scores during childhood may be a sign of potential psychotic symptoms in adults.”

Hollywood wouldn’t have to embellish anything if a movie was ever made about my breakdowns…

‘Bat■■■■ Crackers’ doesn’t even come close to describing my mania properly. But nobody in the audience would buy it for a second. My psychotic episodes were just too far out there for anyone to believe.

Hi!
I only hope that this response goes out to all of you.
My schizophrenic brother was highly intelligent. John Nash, from “A Beautiful Mind” was highly intelligent.
John Nash’s son has schizophrenia and so does Albert Einstein’s son.
So, whatever, low IQ or high IQ, it is such a story that will always need to be heard.
I think one of you mentioned the society that gives the voices a chance to speak?
Why not? Is there something we all need to hear?

Thanks,K

Thank you kathy1
John Nash and his wife died recently in an auto accident caused by the negligence of their driver. Here, it did not matter how smart he was.
I have a high IQ but am saddled with cognitive deficits. in society I am something at the level of a garbage man or a janitor.
