50mg of Trazodone

I am going to try 50mg of Trazodone tonight to see what happens.
I have been on 100mg a day but that makes me feel a bit sleepy in the morning.
I have had severe insomnia all my life, even as a child I would lay awake until 4am.
I would be thankful for your help with this.

i don’t have much issues with sleep. when i did, it was usually when i consumed chocolate or soda near bedtime.

@sirBoring but the man is asking for help.
It’s good that your sleep is all right but the man is in a tight spot and wants help.

@simonw you can try melatonin, I don’t know if it will help you but it helps some people with sleep problems.

Vistaril acts fast and doesn’t give a hangover.

But it’s not good for every day.

I have tried Hydroxyzine and melatonin but they make me tired but don’t help much with feeling sleepy.
I can feel really tired and still have trouble going to sleep.

L-theanine helps me get to sleep at a reasonable hour.

I went off it for a while and ended up getting to sleep much later. So it seems to work for sleeping problems as well as other stuff.

I took 50mg Trazodone last night, I went to sleep quickly but woke up several times during the night. I was much less sleepy this morning, and as an experiment I drank a bottle of diet coke and the sleepiness went away completely. I don’t normally drink caffeine.

I’ve had insomnia since I was seven years old. I drank a coke about an hour before I went to bed, and I’ve had terrible insomnia ever since. As for the Trazodone - I can take any amount of it, and it has no effect on me. I’ve taken hundreds of mg of that drug, with no effect.

I have some form of insomnia. I was on 200 mg of trazodone every night, and those 2 blue sleeping pills that look like a football. Im on 100 mg of seroquil now. I dont like it cause, it usually takes 3 or 4 hours to put me to sleep.

50 mg is nothing, that’s like a starting dose maybe. It didn’t do anything for me. But I ended up having to be on quite a high dose, I don’t remember what it was. In fact trazodone alone didn’t put me to sleep, I had to combine it with Ativan.

I also have bad insomnia issues. Also ptsd issues that keep me up at night, night time has always been hell for me due to psychosis so even now that my symptoms are more stable I never feel safe at night and get terrible anxiety I will experience bad things again.

What do you want help with?

a 100 mgs of trazodone helped for awhile. do you have your doctor’s permission to take only 50 at night? now i take amitriptyline and clonidine at night

Also forgot to mention, you can help reduce the morning sleepiness issue by always making sure you will get at least 8 hours of sleep before taking it. If I had a night where I had to wake up early the next morning for example and would only get like 5 hrs of sleep I would have to skip the dose for that night otherwise I’d get bad drowsiness and fainting the next morning.

I can’t take trazodone. I took it once and it lowered my blood pressure so low that I had actually fainted

I took 50mg Trazodone last night and I only got 2 1/2 hours of sleep, that about the same as I would get if I took nothing.
I am going back on 100mg tonight, my experiment didn’t work, but at least I know now.
On 100mg I get 7-8 hours of sleep, and I am going to take some caffeine when I get up to stop me from feeling sleepy in the morning.
I am going research how caffeine works on the Internet, I don’t like tea or coffee, so I will have 1 or 2 cans of coke when I wake up, I am also going to try caffeine tablets.
I am also taking an antipsychotic and antidepressant for my other problems.

Trazadone is an antidepressant that helps some people sleep. My Doctor calls it a “clean” drug.

The dose my Doctor wants me to take is 12.5 mgs.

I can’t find anywhere on the Internet that explains why Trazodone makes people sleepy.
I think it is because it increases the effect of Adenosine in the brain, a natural chemical produced in the brain that causes a person to feel sleepy, caffeine blocks Adenosine, therefore caffeine blocks the effect of Trazodone. It is just my theory.
I have a bad sleep / wake cycle as well as insomnia, I will get there eventually.

trazadone didn’t help me fall asleep at all, nor did it keep me asleep. Keeping asleep seems to be more my problem, but nothing works so far. I take prasozin to stop the dreams from waking me up, and that works but something else always wakes me up anyway. Thank God I’m not working so I can nap when needed.
