50 is young

When I turned 50, I felt like my life was over and I was old. I gave up trying to live for a few years. I didn’t realize how young I still was.

Our perception of what “old” is changes as we age.

When I was 17, I thought 30 years old was ancient.

It goes so fast, though. In a blink of an eye I went from 25 to 55 although I still tend to think like someone in my mid-twenties…which is why I’ve always gotten along with the millennials.

50? You’re barely middle aged.

My grandma happiest age was around 60.
She danced every weekend.

Absolutely!! I have spent most of my nursing career in aged care. To me, 60 and 70 are also not that old. My grandfather still gets around on his own, drives a car, etc. He is in his early 90’s. I think it is all in your attitude. I’ve seen people give up and die for no good reason other than they thought they were old.

Wonder if I make it so far… life has been rough. 50 seems a long way off yet. But people tend to live longer these days, so might not be old.

Well, I’m 57, that’s fiddy seven ok, an’ I was thinking the other day that when I was 7 years old, it was FIFTY YEARS AGO!!! HOLY ■■■■!!! I. BE. OLD. !!! Nah it’s not such a big bad deal, it just seems comical that the white folks got one foot in the grave, like their dyin’ t’morrow, an’ I don’t know what I’m doin’ fer dinner later t’day! Anyway if these normals aren’t ready for a little crazy ■■■■ then they should probably stay home. Coz shot usually does get weird.

That’s genuinely impressive.

I can definitely relate to the “time flies by” sentiment. I am in my early thirties now, but I still think that I celebrated my eighteen years-old a week ago, and I still have the mind of a fifteen years-old teenager.

Thinking that fifty is young is a little bit optimistic however. None of my grand parents lived to see sixties. Except my grand-grand mother, who lived through nazi enslavement, and died at the age of ninety eight.

Time… remember 10 years ago, then try to look 10 years into the future from that point in the past. What is the difference? I don’t feel much different, other than the bodily aches and my experiences with extreme psychosis. But still feel the same age as like in 30. Maybe time is not linear.

So from today, try to look 10 years into the future. In 10 years, then look 10 years back. It is a nice exercise.

I’ll soon be 53 and it seems like it’s already over for me. (not life but the interesting part of it). I hope I can develop your attitude.

I’m 62 now and will be 63 in a month. I just got a new boyfriend and we both want to be married one day. He wants to marry me and talks about it a lot, but I want to take it a little more slowly.

My point is you are never too old…
