I just started taking 50,000 unit of Vitamin D once a week. Hopefully I will start feeling less tired and more interested in life.
I take 1000 IU of Vitamin D everyday.
I have a Deficiency.
my level was at 14 when I had my blood tested. I just googled it said normal level is 25-80
50000 IU sems way too high to be safe. You risk getting Vitamin D toxicity.
EDIT: I misread the original post and thought it said 50,000 IU daily rather than weekly.
that is what the doctor prescribed, so I assume he knows what he is doing, but you never know. it says units not IU so I am not sure what that means
@Moonbeam A lot of people take 50000 IU once a week, perfectly safe. It’s a somewhat common script where I work.
@ejm “units” refers to IU.
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying that dose is not uncommon @scoobasteve
The NIH link I posted stated Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (ULs) for Vitamin D was 4000 IU, so that caught my attention.
oh, I thought he had said 50000 IU daily dose rather than weekly.
Oh, ok. Yeah, 50000 IU daily would be way too much. We have one patient who takes 50000 IU twice weekly, and that is an awful lot, must have a severe deficiency.
I had that prescribed for me on a weekly basis for two months once, then lowered to 2,000 a day. I was pretty severely deficient at the time. My doctor made it sound like 50k/week was almost always a temporary intervention, though.
Me too. it was probably due to not getting enough direct sunlight.
I love vitamin D.
I’ve heard large doses of Vitamin C can help too, especially with illnesses like fatigue and cancer.
