So I’m nearly 50. The average lifespan for schizophrenics is 60 apparently.
What would you do?

Indulge in your hobbies like photography. Bite the bullet and grab the bull by the horns and get outside snapping.
Eat healthily and exercise and last a bit longer than the average sz who eats badly, doesn’t exercise and smokes.
It’s not Neccasary is that u will live till 60 it could be 65!-70 …don’t worry that average life span not all people live till 60 only cheer up bro
I don’t know my man, just do your best.
The way I spend my days: exercise, walk, play chess.
I sometimes shower, and sometimes I shave, floss my teeth and brush my teeth.
It is not a particularly “glamourous” life, but it is a life I came to accept and even love.
Honestly I want to freeze the current situation, and continue like this forever.
I will have more connections, divine or erthly, both are good equally,
I hope you live at least until 80 and even more,
Don’t let statistics bother you. I’ve seen sz folks who are in their seventies.
I’m 59. If that is true, I got one more year to live. And I feel great and the healthiest that I have been my whole life. I do not feel ready to die at all.
All of my labs look really good according to my doctors. I have no heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, (my blood pressure is very low actually), obesity, or any of the other usual killers.
My only problems are osteoarthritis and frequent migraines. And those won’t kill you.
According to the stats I have five more years to go.
Going to be 55 years old this Friday.
I don’t know, maybe with some luck I’ll make it to 65 years old.
Sit down, have a nice cup of coffee (or maybe tea in your case), watch the birds, the trees, or the TV, and just chill out for as long as you feel like.
Write a short bucket list.
I would keep living my life like normal. I was told the average lifespan for someone with my brain tumor was 22 and I have long since surpassed that. I think you’ll surpass your expectancy, too. Doctors have no way of knowing when someone will die. Statistics mean nothing.
Is the short life expectancy caused by the illness itself, or poor screening on schizophrenics?
I would imagine the higher suicide rates change the average. Also we have to remember, we’re the lucky ones that are at least moderately functioning. That would work in our favor
It appears cardiovascular disease is the main problem at least at my age
Drink more water, cut out sugars and tobacco, get some exercise every day. And you’re very likely to beat the odds.
With that in mind, you need something to look forward to. Something to make you want to wake up the next day.
If you’re more of an indoors guy (as I suspect), join an online chess club or start working on a novel. Must be something that you’re capable of doing, yet challenging enough to keep you on your toes.
I’m 62. I’m not really healthy , but I’m not really unhealthy either.
If I could get to grips with losing weight that would make a big difference. I accept this is totally irrational , but one thing that makes me anxious about losing weight is buying clothes as weight is lost.
I think that’s what I’m going to aim for to be honest…
A lot can happen in ten years.
But what is it you want to do?
Not sex, drugs and rock 'n roll then?
This is my suggestion to EVERYONE- not just people in their 50’s.
