I have never ever ever heard that personalities cannot be aware of each other in order to be diagnosed with DID. I did a search on the web, thanks Dr.Google, and I can’t find much that says different personalities cannot be aware.
Also the reason Joker stopped taking his medicine is because the city cut funding to health care and he didn’t have a place to get his prescriptions filled. That’s not to say that film didn’t put a cruddy spin on mental health, but he didn’t decide to quit taking his meds, which kind of invalidates a part of their argument.
