does anyone here understand Dissociative Identity Disorder D.I.D. or previously known as Multiple personality disorder…im trying to understand but find it difficut
See the movie Identity (2003) its based on it.
Its mostly caused by trauma and stress like rape, crime, death of a loved one, etc
A more extreme form is Somatoform disorder where trauma and stress causes physical pain and paralysis without a medical explanation.
I think we used to have an active forum member here with MP disorder. I think they said that when another personality takes over, and then they come back they could not even remember what happened sometimes?
I read something once that made it clear to me. Basically what happens is that an experience occurs that you can’t keep as part of your “personal narrative”, so you create an alter identity to contain the experience and deal with it, separate from your main sense of self. It’s been said that only children can form alter identities though, so if an experience like this happens to an adult it causes dissociative amnesia instead.

I have a bit of that. Probably comes from trauma
My ex wife was never officially diagnosed but she displayed many of the DID symptoms.
