Zoos, yay or nay?🐾🐼

Okey, I’m thinking of visiting a Zoo where I live. I’m very fond of wild animals. From the soft (koala, llamas, bears) to the not-so-soft (crocodiles, lizards, and snakes, etc). Besides giving me a chance to be amid friendly nature for a day, I expect a further peek round will get curiosity asking me, ā€˜what is the natural history of these captives?’

In any case what an incredible sight to see a strange bird upon a perch, live Flamingos or a solitary lion traversing an open expanse! I could never see that in the everyday urban sprawl of consumeristic monotony. And climate change may one day soon push, for example, the superbly regal South American Falcon to go extinct in its native lands. Perhaps then zoos will be the only suitable place for housing this avian majesty. After all who would remember the last Tasmanian Tiger were it not for zoos?

Which brings me to the question: Do you/did you visit a zoo? What was your experience like? Were they cages of exploitation or a wholesome education? Did visiting a zoo inspire you to wanna go out and buy a pet which helped you to cope with the illness?

Thank you so much for any experiences you are willing to share with me.

I don’t see the point in caging wild animals for human amusement. But have fun  (Sorry)

ive been to the yorkshire wildlife park, where the lions ad polar bears were brought from a concrete zoo, where they were caged in a small cage ----- thats what i dont like, like, chester zoo, its concrete theres no space for them

however, yorkshire wildlife park is big, got a massive lake fr the polar bears and a great big area for the lions although its fenced off its not cagey.

they have even put a ā€œPride Rockā€ and a big river for the lions as well so they can have a proper drink and a wash xx

its the only one i feel comfortable going to.

the one at chester, and london are a bit too concrete and the poor animals look so bored and upset xxx

I heard of a truck with a cage that brings humans thru the jungle… I think that’s more humane…

In a zoo i get its fascinating to see the majesty of the animals but its not right in my eyes buddy

There are plenty of well managed and spacey zoo’s though there are many where animals obviously suffer.
My kid adores the animal world…its sort of obssesion and we were in every zoo around my country and likely it won’t stop. So what can I do.
I did tell him its not okay…its for a human amusement… But I certainly would never take him to the circus. Those places are far worse.

I used to love animals before schizophrenia. I went with my siblings to a zoo in uganda and there were monkeys just outside the zoo! In uganda life is basically the zoo, there are animals everywhere.

I don’t think animals suffer in the zoo, if you look at evolution their brains are much smaller and less complicated than ours so they need less variety in their life.

In the wild animals live a short, hard life. They constantly struggle to survive and acquire food and many times they go without or die early.

I’m not sure they are able to enjoy life in the zoo because it may not be within their mental capacity. Once they have enough space and food I just assume they are content.

That’s racists as ■■■■…and also wrong…

I’m half penguin so how can I be racist?

I think it depends on the zoo. The zoo by me has huge landscapes for all the animals, and whenever a baby is born, they keep it with its parents instead of selling it off to another zoo. So the animals have their own open environment free from predators where they can play and exercise all day with their families.

I was a ethical vegan and peta member for 8 months.

I eat meat and drink dairy now.

I think animals do get abused and also thet they dont let some animals be themself and connected to who they are in other bodies and species and in person.
They may take my lambs for energy or say someone is someone else.

I think if the animals are treated well and get to be themself it is nicer for them.

A whale commited suicide at sea world.
It bashed its head into the wall repeatedly untill it died.

I still get peta emails but sometimes i think its a cover up and the biggest thiefs or abusers might be peta workers or owners and they cheat on who someone is etc.

I want to be somewhat caring and believe as i do but i think milk can be nourishing and im not vegan anymore.

It depends on who the animal is and what they want but theres a lot of theft etc goes on cause they might want a persons energy in someone elses ā€œmeatā€ body, in cattle etc
I have memory of being held down by woman and raped when i was very very young and it was outside a zoo.
I screamed but he was behind bars and could not help me.
then hospital and i could not speak and had asthma attack. awful feeling.

They might threaten the animal at zoo and bully them with other animals.
Out in wild too…
can be whole armies against one person in spriritual way because some well known people use there energy and rum and animals etc.

But there could be a individual who has own park, zoo with own animals but are they consenting animals…
Even those who do things to animals… was the animal consenting…?
maybe its what the animal wanted…
or maybe it was abuse.
what one animal individual wants and another may be different.

They did horrid things to me at sea, not let me be myself or have own rum etc. some well known people and heaps people use it n feel good on it etc
on land too
and they show things in way may not be true and all lie.
everyone can lie and only one speak truth. amazing.

So even in the wild it can be everyone against one who they want steal from…
its who n all they are.
someone else may look n feel n act like them if there in there bodies.
rum rum

They use the term ā€œspeciestā€ instead of racist.

I say ya to zoos but only if done properly…I say nay to PETA…I don’t trust anyone who think me and a chicken are on an even keel…so yes I’m racist too …against the chicken race…but to bunch all animals in with chickens seems ignorant…go watch a doc on dolphins and tell me they don’t laugh and do ā– ā– ā– ā–  just because its fun…

Ahaha! That’s like a zoo where the roles are reversed—humans in the cage and animals as the spectators. Irony duly noted!

That’s how people visit the wild polar bears…fortified vehicles…and you can pay extra to get out ground level in a plastic see through box…that protects you from them…but I don’t trust no anti bear boxes…lol

I’ve been to the zoo. I don’t think that I get as much out of it as most people do though. Now with the advent of small camera being able to be placed in small places. I wonder if we could have monitored wildlife refuges. So people can see the animals but at the same time many of those endangered animals can be kept alive. Not that big of an issue for me but it seems like it would be killing two birds with one stone. Bad phrase to use in this situation but there you go.
