Okey, Iām thinking of visiting a Zoo where I live. Iām very fond of wild animals. From the soft (koala, llamas, bears) to the not-so-soft (crocodiles, lizards, and snakes, etc). Besides giving me a chance to be amid friendly nature for a day, I expect a further peek round will get curiosity asking me, āwhat is the natural history of these captives?ā
In any case what an incredible sight to see a strange bird upon a perch, live Flamingos or a solitary lion traversing an open expanse! I could never see that in the everyday urban sprawl of consumeristic monotony. And climate change may one day soon push, for example, the superbly regal South American Falcon to go extinct in its native lands. Perhaps then zoos will be the only suitable place for housing this avian majesty. After all who would remember the last Tasmanian Tiger were it not for zoos?
Which brings me to the question: Do you/did you visit a zoo? What was your experience like? Were they cages of exploitation or a wholesome education? Did visiting a zoo inspire you to wanna go out and buy a pet which helped you to cope with the illness?
Thank you so much for any experiences you are willing to share with me.
