I don’t consider myself religious, but I do have a spiritual set of beliefs. I’ve always been connected with nature and such, and always had fun with the whole spirit animal stuff. It helps me cope.
I did a lot of research and I find it really intriguing, I’m like this with zodiacs as well. I don’t think they’re real, of course, but I think they’re really fun and it’s something I’m into (I’m the metal dragon). Not to mention can be very accurate.
Spirit animals can be many things. There are your lifelong ones (which is your spirit guide, an energy source from yourself or something else that stays with you your whole life), messengers (which appear either repeatedly in T.V. or around you, or come to you IRL), and there’s shadow ones that challenge you.
I like to pay attention to animals around me and while this whole thing seems silly to most, I think it holds a lot of truth. For a while now red tailed hawks have been trailing me. I took a few pictures of them just to document. They appear on signs, elec. cords, etc. Where I live they’re common, but not common enough for one to see them once or two times a day for weeks. That’s how I knew something was going on. So I looked it up online, and hawks resemble messengers from the spirit and real world. To stay sharp and tap into my spirituality, or something. So once I started paying attention to that they went away.
It’s cool with me if you think that’s stupid, and I don’t mind. I think a lot of religions/and beliefs are stupid myself. It’s just something I really enjoy and use to calm myself down and cope with things. My spirit animals are the skunk, barn owl, and dragon. I’ve drawn out the dragon once or twice, and he comes to me in meditation (even if you don’t believe in this there are some cool relaxing meditation YT videos), so I bought a dragon pendant carved from bone and I wear it because dragons are rad af.
Now enough about that. I want to talk about zodiacs, and how cool they are. I’m sure when you hear zodiac you think of Western culture (I’m a Leo), but there’s zodiacs for almost every culture! The ones I know of are Western, Chinese, and Irish. (I find the last two more accurate).
I’m the dragon sign. But for Chinese zodiacs it doesn’t end there. Depending on your year of your zodiac (China does zodiac by year instead of month like Western) you have an element with it. Wood, metal, earth, water, fire, and I think air? I didn’t memorize it. I’m the metal dragon, which I don’t think fits me.
In Ireland there’s less zodiacs but they’re more accurate (in my opinion), and have some cool lore behind them. They go by months, so I’m the salmon (of wisdom), and there’s also another zodiac you can have, which are trees (I’m the oak). I don’t know all of the lore, but I know that a salmon was swimming down this river and a walnut of wisdom from the wisdom tree fell in and the fish ate it.
Also turns out the luckiest year for the dragon is 2017, but nothing lucky has happened yet so :\
What is your zodiac(s) or spirit animal(s)? I think it’s really interesting, I’d love to hear it!
P.S. I forgot to mention this, but there are little animal trinkets carved from stone or mineral called fetishes, which is not a kinky love thing, but rather an animal totem that’s believed to be inhabited by a spirit. I thought that was interesting
