I feel your pain, I fractured my ankle the spring before I went to boot camp. When the took my cast off it hurt like crazy, my ankle was so weak. Took a good couple of weeks to strengthen it up.
@Natron , so it’s just a matter of using it for a while? I’m trying to find out if I need the boot again because it’s so much less painful because it completely stabilizes my ankle.
I’m supposed to be allowed to walk on it so long as I don’t carry weight, but yesterday I walked from the parking lot into a movie theater and that caused lots of pain after.
I sent a message to my dr about it. Hopefully they respond soon
I’ve got some experience. You need to be off the boot as if you wear it for too long your ankle will freeze in place and you will be unable to move or flex your foot back and forth. So being off the boot now is important.
I’d get a walker somehow. Walkers provide the stability you need so you don’t lose balance as you control how much you lean on your foot as you walk.
Pain is a way of your body telling you that you’ve pushed yourself too far. Listen to it. Stop working it when the pain starts to build. Rest and ice it right away. That way it helps avoid it becoming unbearable.
Also you have an inflammation issue and when you injure a part of your body, inflammation is more likely to settle in there very quickly. So that’s why you need to ice it even if it’s not visibly swollen as internally everything could be inflamed.
I suggest getting a prescription for lidocaine patches you can put directly on the part that hurts. You could also get a script for diclofenac which is a pain relief gel you can rub on your foot.
Well the walker would be better than the cane for now because it provides better balance. You can control exactly the amount of weight to put on the one foot while walking. You are less likely to fall if you stumble. But I’m glad you are working on it. It’s definitely a long process of healing.
