Anyone here a writer? whether an amateur or professional, I have been out of the writing/reading game for some time. I don’t spend much time reading anymore, and feel my writing has suffered as well as my attention span. Maybe I just need to write more and push through the lack of inspiration. May just be that inspiration is just a bunch of bullhockey thought up by lazy jerks who couldn’t string two paragraphs together.
Anyway, I do have a problem with motivation in that writing doesn’t give me the same satisfaction as it used to. Could this be lack of practice or a new frame of mind that’s clouding my creativity?
I used to write for a magazine. Nowadays I just write journals, and it all seems low quality. I don’t know, my therapist says that with writting blocks is how we evolve as writers
If I could fly the night of the high wondering signs of your dreams amidst the fires of hearts I would believe the trixter fell at the moon leaving all the stars to you and I. I would believe in these stars of night where Perhaps the design of willow trees and waves at seas are for your soul, where Perhaps the burning breeze in my eye is more than any could know, where Perhaps wonder is the answer to sew
I like to write when I can. I have two books I would like to publish, and some poetry I want to publish too. But nothing yet. My motivation levels were very low.
I would say I’m an amateur writer. There is an annual contest at the local library that I win sometimes. I’m wanting to reach higher in my aspirations these days. If I wasn’t sz I would like to be a journalist because that kind of constant writing can really help you iron out any problems you have with your prose. Right now I have a lot of bad habits in my writing.
This isn’t a limitation for journalism. ( as it is, for instance, in educational sector where I live, where they emphasize that the teacher shouldn’t have any mental issues).
You can write for web magazines. Of course there’s a big competition everywhere but you can try. I mean, you’re very smart
When you Google something like " paid to write" you’ll get a number of articles about pages which provide such jobs.
Wish I was a native speaker! There are even some that pay for romance stories - I’d be good there
I can write only short snippets such as this. In the past I liked to write long texts, but do not have that ability any longer. I maintained my ‘Intelligence Notebooks’ from 1999 to 2009, 10 years, I have 30 paper notebooks and often I did not write anything, but I drew images and pictures. One picture can tell more than 1000 words. I sometimes liked to record some international relations and I used my triangle game to draw these relations. You could call this trianglism or trilateral relations.
When in doubt write about yourself is what one of my college professors said. I find that to be very helpful. Also I’m a firm believer in the rewrite, especially now that my thoughts can become disorganized. I used to be able to dump a bunch of words on a page and be fine with it first draft right out of the gate, not so much anymore.
Another tip I have found useful is find an author that you love and read their work when you are blocked up.
I used to gather some interesting objects (it helps if they are fun or quirky) that you have in your room or apartment and get creative by writing a brief story around each of them. See how many you can integrate into your writing.
Next, maybe choose one or two themes for your writing which you like. It doesn’t matter if you can’t manage to write a lot. Just a few lines to let free your imagination.
I love to read and write; I’m a published author of one short story and one poem. I would like to publish more though. If anyone needs advice on publishing, I would say just not to give up. The times I was published was on my first try, but more recently I’ve been submitting to more competitive journals and have not yet published my later work. It’s all about brute force though.
Just submit to all the publishers that are right for your writing and that you’re interested in, get like 10-20 submitted to. But it’s really important to keep track of who you submit to so you don’t accidentally cause a journal to publish a previously published work, which is an act that will get you blacklisted in the literary community.
Also it is WAY more effective to submit a printed manuscript to a print-only journal than an online one, but I don’t know why. I think it has to do with the fact that anyone can submit something online whereas if you take the time to organize something, print it out, and mail it it shows you are a little more serious.
