Working out and exercising on Invega Sustena (Do you gain muscles or not?/Do you get sore muscles post work out?)

Do you actually get any benefit from working out and exercising on Invega Sustena, muscle wise, and do you gain muscles? Or you only burn calories? Someone has posted that he/she doesn’t end up with sore muscles after working out, so is it useless for muscle gain or keeping your muscles as they are? Moreover, concerning the work out intensity compared to that before being on Invega, how is it and can you actually lift?

I was able to workout and feel sore the next day on invega sustena. Rite now im on risperdal and can gain muscle.

After 7 years fanatically working out and keeping to a strict diet each year, doing so, I have thrown in the towel… There’s no chance you will gain muscle mass while on antipsychotics, the only thing you will gain is fat. Though, I do recommend working out, it still has the benefits physically and mentally (depression and some negatives). You won’t become a bodybuilder though, my efforts are the proof of that fact. (Btw I’ve been on Risperdal, Zyprexa and Latuda)

I have to continually exercise to maintain my strength and being on abilify lets me do that. Also jogging every second day helps maintain my cardiovascular system and burns calories. Eating nutritious food is also a factor.

I only get sore when I do chest and or triceps.

This is me after 2 years on invega (and not that long ago). The only thing I complain about is the nurses who give the injections sometimes suck butt.

So to answer your question, does this look like it kills gains?:joy:

I’m on Risperdal Consta injections and I do yoga without problems. In fact, it helps me considerably. I have great strength, stamina and flexibility with my yoga practice, over the past twelve years. And I’m 57 years old.

What language is that? Or, what does that mean?

They are little cartoons of people flexing. I was paying you a compliment.

I read your posts on different forums about how you were unable to gain muscle mass after taking zyprexa. Im in the same situation. I’ve been on Zyperxa for a year and not only was i unable to gain muscle mass but i was unable to gain back the muscle mass i initially lost while being in hospital. I was wondering how are things for you now, are you still unable to gain muscle mass. I read in one post you took Pregnenolone and were able to gain muscle again. Have things changed since then?

4-5 years ago I went off Zyprexa and that was also the time when I took Pregnenolone. In one year while off antipsychotics I gained back all my muscle mass that I had build-up in my teenage years and on top of that I also gained 5KG lean muscle mass, my strength increased and my muscles were firm (just how it should be!). After a psychotic break I had to get on Zyprexa again. 3 years ago (or so) I changed from Zyprexa to Latuda, though, result was the same, no gains whatsoever, no increase in strength or firmness (if you give me a little punch it easily get bruised also). I tried combining Latuda with Pregnenolone but it didn’t work.

Right now om on Latuda 40mg and Zyprexa 2.5mg. Since a year I also suffer from a inner ear dis-ailment called ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) when having intense work-outs. I’m unable to work-out like I used to do, so I kinda had to ditch it for that reason also. The only thing I’m able to do is losing fat that I gained even on the lowest dose of Zyprexa with dieting and cardio. My muscles, strength and stamina are all “gone”!

I would say, keep working out hard if it helps other symptoms but don’t try to follow any form of bulk-diets. Each year I hoped I might gain muscles with another diet, with other supplements, with other techniques in the hopes I will gain muscle mass this time, each year I got disappointed. This is my 9th year in a row I have to lose fat because antipsychotics (especially Zyprexa) just “kills” my metabolism, screws up my hormones and pays my hard work out in fat storage.

If you ask me we’re kinda doomed and have to work-out 3-4 times harder compared to “healthy people” to see (some little) results.

so when you were off zyrexa you were able to gain muscle initially or you wern’t?

and did you ever figure out why you couldn’t gain muscle mass?

Yes, only when I went off antipsychotics I was able to (re)gain muscle mass.

I had bloodwork done.
I went to a sportsdoc.
I went to a sports dietician.
I also wanted to let my hormones checked out by a endocrinologist but was denied.

I have the predisposition to gain muscles fast when off antipsychotics. On it, working out and bulk-dieting is just a waste of time if gaining muscles is my goal.

ah i see. So theres still hope for me i guess. Im still on anti psychotics but i recently went off zyprexa which i believe was inhibiting my muscle growth.
