Words have no meaning

Hi. For the past week words have lost meaning and it is really hard for me to have a conversation. I am not understanding the meaning of anything and my speech is very disorganized. I just started on Invega, which has helped me millions, but that is when I started losing my words. I want some help to get me to understand how to talk again like I used to.

Lets hope we both get there we

Words have not lost their meaning; your ability to understand them is compromised.

It’s OK. Most of the time people will still understand what you mean. Humans can interpret language and behavior in amazing ways, when necessary. So don’t stress. Just let people know you’re having some trouble with words lately and you might make a couple of mistakes, and thank them for being patient with you.

If you can’t think of the word for a specific thing (say, toaster), try to describe it instead (say, the metal box that heats the bread). Can you manage that? (I have had to resort to “big box we take food from” for “refrigerator” and “pull sideways the shut” for “open the door”.)

Try to think about what you want to say before you say it. Try writing it down or practicing it ahead of time. Listen to music with lyrics you (used to) like and understand deeply. Maybe these things will help?

But don’t stop talking or think you ought to! Communication is very important and regular talking will keep you practicing the right words all the time.
