Women and Buzz Haircuts

This gives me faith in wigs. I also may go down that route.

I think you have all managed to convince me. The wigs are quite expensive so I can’t be too daring.

Thank you @Blossom

Unfortunately, that’s the downside to them.

Just make sure you get wig shampoo and a synthetic hair leave in “conditioner”. (I’m assuming you’re not going for human hair.)

I couldn’t afford natural hair. Were your wigs synthetic @Pandy

Yes. I have had human hair extensions, but not human hair wigs.

Do they start to stink easily and do you have to wash them like every other day @pandy

The wig

Sorry that you are going through this. It is extremely challenging. Hair is such a big part of my identity. But sometimes we have to adapt to changing circumstances.
I’m on abilify, and like how you were on that one, I see my hair has gotten thinner.

I personally think wigs might be an OK option once getting used to them.

And really looking after them.

Good luck

Thank you so much @Zoe. I hope your hair doesn’t continue to shed. Looking at your photos, your hair is beautiful, thick and shiny, so not noticeable to others. I know this doesn’t help how you feel though.

Keep your hair, don’t shave it. Don’t go for a wig.

Too late, hair is going, going and will soon be gone.

In my shared house another schizophrenic shaved her head completely. With hair she seemed more approachable and friendly to me. No idea why she did it, now she has very short hair.

Usually every few times you wear them. Unfortunately, washing them a lot means they wear out faster. That’s why it’s good to buy the best quality you can.

That is one of the reasons why I am so sad about losing my hair. I felt people could approach me more easily as my curly hair was a “friendly” look.

If I do get a wig I definitely won’t be going out in public with just a shaved head.

My thought was maybe she went religious.

I can understand being sad about the hair.
Hair is a big part of my look too, and I find it drastically changes my looks depending on the style.
No one says it has to be a buzzcut, though. There are lots of styles for short hair.

I’ve had short hair plenty of times, but I feel it accentuates my high cheekbones nicely, so I don’t mind

Thank you @Pikasaur . A short style won’t work as the damage is from root to ends. It is as though my hair has literally died.

I have just now ordered a curly wig in a sandy blonde colour and all the accessories required - $520.00 Australian Dollars later. When it arrives it is off to the hair dresser to have it shaved.

So, I skipped all the comments, but I’m a really fat middle aged person and I buzzed my hair last year and loved it. I got soooooo many compliments on it. I think a lot more women want to do it than you realize, but everyone thinks they can’t pull it off.

Here’s mine after a couple weeks. Seems I didn’t take any pictures for awhile. Lol

And here’s after it started growing out and I hadn’t decided what to do with it yet so I put gel in it.

The upkeep was too much for me at the time, so I’ve been letting it grow out for a year now. But it still doesn’t go in a ponytail, so I’ve decided that if it’s not ponytail length by the first hot day, usually around April, I’m shaving it for good.
