Windows 11 System Requirements - Hope

Just read Microsoft may allow WIndows 11 to run on 7th generation Intel Core i7 Processors. If they do I can just buy one off the Internet and run Windows 11 without having to buy a whole new computer. My current CPU is 6th gen but my motherboard supports 7th gen. That’ll save me a ton of money. Here’s hoping…

I still maintain that buying a system pre-loaded with Windows is like buying a condom pre-loaded with AIDS. Blech.

Yes, I use it, but under protest. No interest in having v11 inflicted on me sooner then necessary.

I’d give this 1,000 likes if I could. Exactly how I feel.

I don’t buy computers. I buy all the parts and build them myself. I dual boot with Windows/Linux. Windows 11 will be a free upgrade from Windows 10.

I’ll probably update on day 1, I usually do. I like playing around with the latest stuff. If it really sucks i can always go back to windows 10, that what I did wind Windows 8, it sucked so I went back to Windows 7.

I looked around I couldn’t find any newer information, but I’m hoping 7th gen will be supported.

I go to the dump, find most or all of the parts I need, build systems that way. Or I buy off-lease systems for about $0.10 on the dollar and use those. I leave bleeding cash for cutting edge tech to others. This media server:

…is 90% reclaimed discards. (The image works if you click through.) My “Chromebook” is a POS Lenovo Stinkpad I got for $20 from Goodwill and dropped a $20 SSD into. It runs Chromium OS.

I paid more than normal for the automation for my station (fanless industrial PCs), but anything non-mission critical is done on the cheap.

That and RadioDJ. Currently running a Rivendell boxen and slowly migrating content to it.

Ah I see. I’m going back to college next year for tech stuff. I miss it.

I’ve done a little of both. I’ve bought used parts off the internet for cheap. My backup server is similar to your media server, cheap parts. My first laptop was a cheap laptop I got from craigslist. But for my gaming system I wanted maximum performance, I hate playing games with low framerates. I paid full price for the latest tech for my gaming PC.

Make the jump to Arch Linux or Manjaro Linux, it is worth it. KDE Plasma is a very user friendly window manager.

I’ve been using Linux since the late 90’s. I’ve been through so many distros and GUI’s. Mandrake, Gentoo, Debian, SuSe, Slackware, Fedora and several others. I currently use Ubuntu with Cinnamon.

Same on timeframe and distros. I’m partial to XFCE Linux Mint.

When I used Linux, I liked OpenSuse KDE the most. Its interface is just damn beautiful.

I dont use Linux anymore as I want to play games, it was a pain in the ass to make Windows games run in Linux using Wine. Games would crash, black screen, missing files, never load, cheat system incompatible, etc Just a headache. I have been running Windows 11 beta since it was released, 0 issues.
