Why does my coffee form a weird, yucky film over it about halfway through the cup?

I use sugar and non dairy creamer.

Sometimes I put bitters in my coffee (no judgments) and it doesn’t seem to happen when I do that.

Maybe it’s the creamer? Other than that I don’t know

Yeah. The creamer would be my guess but I have no idea. Maybe google it?

I can’t go without the creamer.

And it doesn’t seem to happen to other people that use the creamer.

Could it be that I use instant coffee?

Have you tried regular (not instant) coffee?

Oh that’s naaarrrsssty.

Yeah,

I just don’t like it.

I’d just drink it and forget about it. I don’t worry about such things. I’m just that way. But you may be different so… can you still drink it without being grossed out?

I said no judgements!

When I was using instant coffee after I stirred it up the coffee would get a bad tasting film on top. That never happened when I drank drip coffee

Really?

That’s interesting.

I really don’t want to switch to drip coffee because it’s not strong enough and my espresso machine is too strong.

May have to find a medium there that isn’t instant coffee.

Usually halfway through the coffee the film is yucky. But towards the end the films a comedy.

Sir Levels ‘it’s too early before his coffee’ dad jokes :smile:

Try a French press. You can play around with the strength by how much coffee you use and how long you let it sit. Plus, I use really dark roast coffee – that helps.

Good idea.

I may try that.

I know this. It’s the natural oil from the coffee beans that rises to the top. The temperature of the brew defines how much coffee oil will rise to the top. So when you add certain ingredients, will affect the amount of oil that surfaces. @Charles_Foster

You seem well educated on the subject.

And it does feel like oil.

Adds up.

The coffee oil contains caffeine, too. So if you skim it off, there will be less caffeine you are drinking.

Oh, wow – I didn’t know that.
