Why does Health Canada take so long to approve meds?

Why does Health Canada take so long to approve meds but was quick to approve the Cornvid vaccine?

For example its been almost 3 years now since Caplyta has been approved in the US and still nothing here in Canada, what are they doing?

Vraylar was recently approved in Canada last April. Yes it takes time, I think Vraylar was approved in 2015 in the US? So 7yrs to be approved in Canada!

Its the same in the UK too.

We have to wait years for meds.

Our newest ones are Abilify and Latuda

What are they doing though? Like what takes so long? Are they turning there thumbs in there butts or what?

We had easy access to Blonanserin because a nearby country made the med. The department quickly approved it, and now so many people are benefiting from it, including myself.

Exceptional circumstances. There was no other medication available and 100% of the population was vulnerable to infection.

Canadians are smart enough to let Americans be the guinnea pigs for new meds?

Honestly, it’s probably like @shutterbug said. There was more funding to test the covid vaccine, and it was based on technology that had spent years being developed and tested already. Caplyta barely got approved by the FDA here, and has not been performing much better than the already existing meds. I wouldn’t expect it to be rushed to approval any time soon.

Just be glad you’re in Canada. I’d move there if it weren’t for family and my disability payments.
