Why do schizophrenics have low life expectancy?

I heard we live 15-20 years shorter on average. Why is that?

Suicide is one reason I heard

Another is lifestyle… a lot of us are overweight bc of meds… and a lot of us smoke cigarettes pretty heavily

Comorbidities conditions from being overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle.

Street people and suicides with our affliction skew the results.

Most of us who are reasonably functional will probably live a normal length life in my opinion.

Yeah that’s definitely true, but sadly a lot of us do end up on the streets. Which can lead to drug addiction and a lot of other problems

I hope I lead a long life. The topic kinda makes me scared.

I’d say Patrick is right. You will as long you make the right choices… I need to make better choices myself… but most of us aren’t homeless… not that there’s anything wrong with being homeless

I think you’ll be okay

I vape and have poor diet choices. I’m gonna have to change that.

Better than smoking cigarettes though… diet is hard to change I understand… something I need to work on myself

I encountered a schizophrenic person on the street a few weeks ago. He was arguing with himself.

I’m glad my case is not that severe.

Very sad… I’ve never been that severe either… wish we could all help the homeless more… I do what I can, but I’m not rich…

I saw a schizophrenic homeless person outside of my workplace and gave him ten dollars. It feels good to help these people.

I have been homeless and slept rough a few times, fortunately for very short periods.
I definitely don’t recommend it, it’s an exhausting battle in itself, psychotic or not.
Yes, I am sure homelessness has a very significant impact on mortality and last time [2022] it was indeed psychosis that caused me to flee my [rented] home.
