What is the life expectancy for people with schizophrenia?

Ten more years I hope.

The only real evidence of a shorter life expectancy is because of the higher percentage of smoking and obesity among people with sz.

Dont forget homelessness and suicide

Don’t forget the meds! The meds increase lipids, highering cholesterol and blood pressure.

I have been eating a 1500 calorie daily diet for years now and just maintain an overweight weight. I even do 120 press ups and 180 squats a day. I can’t eat any less or exercise any more as I’d faint.

How the meds screw your metabolism is unbelievable. The meds are mentioned as a factor for early death in the linked report.

Maybe try going for a 1-2 hour walk each day. That did miracles for my weight which is in the healthy range now.

The meds give me a side effect of leg cramps if I walk over 2miles, or 7km on the exercise bike, so no can do.

I don’t get a choice what meds they give me.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

That sucks. I would still try to start low and to gradually increase, but you’ve probably already tried so.

I went for a 3 hour walk today.
I’m on Invega btw.

I should be alright. I eat healthily, don’t drink, gave up smoking 17 years ago and do light exercise every day.

I am not super overweight, but there is little I can do about it at present.

I’ve been eating less than 1,000 calories a day for months now and I’m still really obese. I can’t exercise by walking or running because those things hurt my shins I think because I’m obese.

Have you tired doing squats and press ups? What about swimming as that is gentle on the bones and muscles?

I stopped doing squats and push-ups last year. I don’t really want to go swimming because I’m so fat and it’s embarrassing

What about investing in a good exercise bike? That way you could exercise at home with no embarrassment.

That’s a good idea. I have an exercise bike but it’s in the garage and I forgot about it

I’m super obese but have started walking a little and swimming a few times a week at the pool. At first I was afraid people would laugh and stare at me in my swimsuit but everyone at the pool has been very positive about me being there to exercise.
I’m not only fat, but I smoke and vape. I “learned” how to smoke in my first hospitalization in 1992 and have been hooked since. I’m probly going to die earlier than most but I don’t care, I don’t have kids or anything…

You might care a lot down the road.
