I think it’s because we don’t live as long.
I really hate to say it but it’s the meds, especially AP’s.
They cause obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes plus cardiovascular issues.
Yes I agree. The doctors believe that a short medicated life is better than a long psychotic one. I’ll probably get flagged for criticising meds though
I think it’s a combo of meds and lifestyle behaviours that results in people with schizophrenia dying earlier.
I believe suicide is higher in people with sz/sza, that could distort the average lifespan by quite a bit if young people with sz take their own lives.
I am by no means suggesting that is the only reason, lifestyle and meds undoubtedly have an impact as well.
I also think it could be due to the medication and being overweight. Obesity plays hell on the body and these meds dont make it easy to lose weight. It’s possible to lose weight on antipsychotics, just not easy.
