The primary crime is the death and destruction. The secondary crime is that these people have no idea or indication beforehand… they are terrified at all times.
Meanwhile a soldier is sitting back in a tent twisting joysticks and ending people’s lives.
There was a Japanese author that described Americans as having this certain loneliness about them unlike anyone from any other country.
Dropping the bomb was horrible. You could easily say it was cruel and inhumane and it made many innocent people suffer. But the bottom line is that practically the only way for the Allies to have ended the war (which Japan started) was to have invaded the Japan mainland. If we would have had to invade Japan it would have caused more casualties on both sides than dropping the bomb did and could have prolonged the war for many more months.
Another good argument you can make in defense of the U.S actions is that both the Germans and the Japanese were working on developing their own atom bomb at the same time we were and I’m absolutely sure that if they would have perfected it first, they would have not hesitated to use it on us.
But the past is the past. In that war many innocent people died on both sides. The average German or Japanese person are fine people upstanding people just like you will find anywhere in the world today or back in the forties. The main blame for the loss of millions of innocent lives during World War II rests mainly on the leaders of both countries at that time.
