Who was the first person ever to have psychosis

i’m sorry but that doesn’t fit with scientific reductionist materialism/drug company propaganda & that we’re all bags of walking meat. Nor does it fit with fundamentalist religion. So i will have to outright deny/reject everything that you say, until you come up with better arguments.

How very scientific of you. That settles that then.

Chill guys. We’re evolved monkeys on a flying ball revolving around another giant fire ball typing into computers that are coded in binary. It’s all relative and usually the simplest explanation will come up. Until then, rejoyce in not knowing.

If you want to go down the religious route, anyone who believed in Gods, or a God especially those that believe they’ve spoken with god (i.e. Abraham, Noah…) but not only Christian/Jewish stand-points what about all the ancient Egyptians that believed in multiple God’'s/Goddess’s, or the Babylonian’s, or ancient Chinese, or the Mayan’s…and it goes on and on. Or those who believed the world was flat, or that we were the center of the universe?

Though as someone who believes in God and the power of the holy ghost and sanctity of Christ with the power of the Virgin Mary and all the saints, I still wonder about all those hundreds of religions before Christianity, I mean they all believed in multiple Gods/Goddess’s, but at some point we reduced it down to one God. But believing in religion alone doesn’t equal psychosis. Perhaps believing that you can speak to God directly, or are receiving messages from God might. Reading the beginning parts of the bible people are so easily convinced that Abraham, and Noah actually spoke with God. How is that any different now a days if I were to say I speak with God?

It’s amazing to me how young people turn such a simple question and answer session into a cluster ■■■■ when on-line.

The question I would ask is why psychosis/schizophrenia not bred out. Is there some evolutionary advantage to being a child/ sibling/close relative of an affected person NB psychosis vs creativity and schizotypal (traits) ?
Person A= schizophrenia Person B= child of A . Is not schizophrenic but creative and thinks outside the box carries schizophrenia gene Person C= son of B inherits the gene and develops full blown schizophrenia…

I don’t think Jesus was fictitious. I think that there was at least a historical person who bopped about preaching peace and stuff. I think the people who wrote about him weren’t the best people. I bet if there’s a heaven Jesus is looking down on us reading and quoting the bible screaming, “Holy ■■■■ I never said any of those things!” and “why on earth would I do something like that?”

That sort of stuff.

It just may be that biological neural networks are inherently unstable. Scientists working with artificial neural networks are finding that the more complex the network, the more easily they destabilize.

I think the first person to ever have psychosis was probably some caveman 10 thousand years ago…

Caveman: “Dang Honey! I feel like I’m King of the World!!”

Caveman’s Wife: “Now, now sweetheart. I TOLD you eating zebra testicles was a trigger!”

Seems to me a fair bit of linguistic ability had to be in place to have had psychosis as we know it.

its a nature nurture argument if you ask me and i really believe it is more nurture than nature in my opinion, people can be susceptible but if we have a strong nurturing upbringing we can avoid the pain of psychosis, so what i would say is that it can be prevented even if you are susceptible, every one of us here could have been saved a lifetime of hurt if we had a stronger social upbringing.

i don’t know Pixel? i think that there is a great mystery here. i don’t think that psychiatry/science has answered these questions. i prefer to admit Not knowing. Personally it has always made a lot more sense for me to look at the entire field & see what everyone, & all the different viewpoints are saying. But i’m Not sure that anyone really has any categorical answers? i suppose that can be very scary for people, & a lot of people prefer the official narratives/story around it all.

i’m more confused about it all on one level than i ever was. Yes i concede that there is illness/pathology, that people need help, that there is a role for psychiatry & medications.

i think that there is a lot in that. As for nature/nurture - i don’t see any either/or -

I am certain that whatever happened to me involves actual brain damage. I’ve suffered some cognitive decline from my youth. There are certain things I can’t remember, no matter how hard I try (personal hygiene). I’ve regained a lot of function. A lot. I did it using mostly the same therapies that are used with stroke victims (e.g. I had mild apraxia at first). I’ve spent years doing mental exercises daily to try and sharpen what’s left of the lump of tissue between my ears. Soduku. Crosswords. Math exercises. Memory games. I do those daily. I’ve probably spent upweards of $300 on brain training apps over the years.

Same for me too.

does that mean you dont believe it was either nature or nurture? like do you think you can catch sz like as if it was a cold?

I am not sure whether it involves brain damage but I do know that I have problems with certain areas of cognition.
I signed up for Lumosity but couldn’t get past the attention fit test assessment which just seemed to be on an endless loop using firefox. Tried on Chrome and it worked only for Lumosity to tell me that because it was a while since I’d done them I needed to do them again. Gave up in frustration at that point.
One thing I struggle with is slow mental speed/reactions and often/usually these games move too fast for me.
Have yet to find a free brain training site that I can actually use properly. Lot of sites out there but most seem to need you to pay to get the full benefits.

Other than a diagnostic category/metaphor, i have No idea what schizophrenia is?

i don’t see how nature & nurture can be rationally separated?
