You cant expect results from taking one or two tablets. I respond very well to anti-psychotics and it takes me at an average dosage about 4 to 5 weeks for symptoms to disappear when ill. Your doctor sounds useless giving you a such a low dosage considering your history then expecting a miracle. Also I cant understand why you haven’t been given the option to try maximum dosage of Respiridone which is 16mg, i think your on 6mg to 8mg??? Also as mentioned earlier Haldol can go up to 100mg a day, you can get 20mg tablets. When I have been in hospital i’ve met people who take 3 to 6 months to respond to meds, some can take longer and some never at all. I think you need to start going up to maximum dosages on a med before you rule it out.
Yes i tried it for awhile, i used to call it halo doll for no reason. And now im on risperdal, which i call despair-a-doll.
The counter drug they gave me with it caused my eyes to stop working well so they tried me on another one, after taking it for a few hours i had to go to work, during work my arm began to move by itself in an upward motion.
I couldn’t control it, when i tried to hand people their money my arm began to move up and away.
After a few minutes of freaking out the symptoms worsened and i had to go, they fired me though for it, it really sucked balls.
Then the cramps began, they became painful after awhile, i ended up bent over at the waist from the cramps and spasms, dam what a time that was.
It got painful to.
Ill never try haldol again.
Currently my son is positive symptom free as far as I know. My son’s positive symptoms seem to be in direct relation to the amount of pot that he smokes. Even his negative symptoms are minimal. He doesn’t isolate except when in active psychosis or having a break. He does get anxiety but that goes up after he has indulged in alcohol and pot. His voices come out when he is having a break. As he gets stable they slowly recede to background noise like a song playing.
Did they tell you why the declined the Clozapine for you? I know it’s generally used as a last resort but I have read that they are trying to change this way of thinking. Also I guess because it is still fairly new a lot of places are not used to it yet. When my son came to live with me it was a learning experience for even our pharmacy. They had to order it in because they hadn’t filled that prescription before. Even his early intervention team hadn’t had much if any experience with it. I know of another mom who’s son was put on it just recently and she had a hard time finding a pharmacy that carried it.
On a side note. My son has and always will have questions regarding afterlife, telekinesis and other ideas. I don’t consider any of this as a positive symptom. They are his belief system and he is entitled to have it.
I’m on Haldol. I take 15 mg a day. Great medication if you’re having disturbing command voices and paranoia.

Ive been on haldol for 5 years on n off for about three years. But it works well i feel like a normal person again but the side effects sucks so bad. When i started taking haldol i noticed noticed my eyes would roll in the back of my head for a few mins and whenever i was in the sun it would do it to. Thats why wouldnt take my meds sometimes because of tht. Also i gained over a 100 pounds on haldol my starting weight was 188 pounds now i currently weigh 315 pounds. Im always hungry i have to eat a full meal least twice day or im thinkinfg bout food… Im very lazy now i dont like too do much even wen i weigh alot smaller i only wanted to sleep i was disconted with haldol at first because i felt like a zombie. Also may i had for side effects my hands twitch and my mouth moves kinda weird wen im tlking. Its hard for me to use complete sentence my words get all mixed up but other then that i dont hear voices anymore only at night when i hear something cus i live alone but yu kno no matter how much med u take that schizophrenia is lurking i dontkno mayne its me. Also i have really bad anxiety which i smoke cigs to calm my nerves
I’ve been on 40 mg a day of Haldol before. That was total hell. I’ve never felt so bad. Then they put me on the time released shot, and that wasn’t good. I was getting about 3-5 mg a day from my shot. I laid in bed a lot. If I was a pdoc I would rarely prescribe Haldol in any form. I would only prescribe it as a last resort, when a person was violently psychotic, and even then I wouldn’t prescribe it if there were alternatives. The years I was on Haldol were the worst years of my life.
They gave me a Haldol shot when I was in the hospital and it didn’t do anything at all except make me a little disoriented and sick to my stomach, it was completely useless.
I don’t hear voices but I become mean and agitated when I am not on meds… the Haldol wasnt as bad as I ve been told from some ill friends. it calms down effectively and in my case i was on my feet with it…but it made me akathisic with time which was inbearable… ive also had my paranoia worsen by it but I am somebody who reacts strangely on some aps and Haldol was one of the strange ones…
I got put on Haldol today. I started Trilafon, but it is very expensive and hard to get hold of in tablet form. Haldol is cheap. I see there are mixed reviews here.
I read that the older antipsychotics help positive symptoms better. Fingers crossed.
I understand What someone further up meant, about chemical imbalances and so forth. But I am of the opinion that whilst you need to read up about these meds and ask questions about them, they can lessen the problems. It´s bad enough to know that you have a diagnosis that you will have the rest of your life. May as Well try something for it. I´ve caught my brain lying to me on Several occasions. That´s when I learnt that I Perhaps needed meds.

I was put on haldol but didn’t take the cogentin with it because I wanted to limit the number of drugs I took and man did I pay the price. My involuntary neck movements were a nightmare. I took it a while longer but the trauma stuck in my head so I had a negative opinion of the drug. I was happy to take Risperdal instead (I often thought the price of Risperdal was the reason I was put on Medicaid but it’s true that I was too old to be on my stepfather’s work insurance and you have to be covered by some type of insurance in this country or you are in trouble). I didn’t argue when they added cogentin that time. Since Risperdal was a new drug that was an automatic precaution due to my previous experience.( I don’t think they make you take cogentin with Risperdal now.) During my first Psych Ward visit a decade ago I was given haldol again along with a ton of other drugs but the voices continued and they gave up after one week. The doctor knew my Mom and didn’t want to see her come around anymore to visit out of sympathy so I was released.
hi i took haldol injection 5 month ago.
i got haldol decinate injection after psychotic behavior
i was sleeping 16 hours a day
i felt like my left eye was shrinking
felt very wierd
i walked like a zombie for 2 month
Now 5 month later im feeling living with a mini coma
hard to think hard to calculate stories and numbers
the medicine works quickly but the side effects horrible i prefer to live with psychotic and not suffer from haldol.
that’s my favorite medication.
I take a miniscule amount if haldol 1ng. It’s too low for me . Take it easy

I have been on it for 39 years, currently 1 mg plus 50 mg seroquel for sleep.
I have a trace of paranoia but no real voices. It helped me in about a month.
