Where do you personally find new music these days?

Tv? Radio ? Spotify ? Youtube ?

When I was growing up it was pretty much TV and radio. I suspect that those are the last places anyone finds out about new music now.

I usually get recommendations on YouTube. The ones I like lead me to more music.

With my Google mini I subscribed to YouTube radio. We’ve tried every song imaginable and she knows them all. At night I put on nature sounds. It’s pretty cool.

I go to my favorite radio station’s website and they list their top songs and I download any I don’t have. I’ve been thinking of using Iheart Radio to find similar radio stations in different parts of the country to find more music. I generally don’t buy albums.

Mainly, I find new music through videos recommended by YouTube. I like to watch music videos. That’s why I use YouTube.

We have a great alternative radio station. It’s subscriber based but it’s always been good at playing decent undiscovered or alternative bands. I get most of my new music by listening to that. I am also, as of this year, a subscriber!

Here are my sources:

  • Google Play Music stations (notably: Pop Before It Breaks)
  • Youtube Music (new releases)
  • Youtube channels I have subscribed to
  • Listener tips (I get about 50 or so emails per week now)
  • Emails from labels wanting to promote artists (mostly crap)
  • iPluggers service for radio stations

I think I’ll start making my own. String up my guitar and learning things from you tube. Also my favorites list has about 150 pieces - a treasure trove for listenng and learning.
