When I was young, they said I played well for someone my age

Now that I am old, they say the same thing…lol

Isn’t that always the case. No one cares when you’re in the middle. Lol. What did you play? I played piano and violin when I was five. No one cared when I could as an adult. I’ll have to see if anyone cares when I’m elderly….lol

I played piano, violin and a little French horn. We also learned the beginnings of all instruments in college. You’re not that old! I meant being old is similar to being young in that you can’t be judged as strictly as you are in your prime.

I get what you meant. I love the French horn, too. Never was good with wind instruments though. I had a weak chest. Tried drums one time. Was so terrible everyone laughed during my concert. I hope you keep playing forever!

Where did you have the opportunity to learn so many instruments?

I was homeschooled. I was in college orchestra, leader of kids orchestra, first and second chair, etc. up until I graduated high school. It was my life for so long, but when I went to college I ended up in choir. Lol. Such a disappointment to my parents. Lol

So, did you ever get a chance to earn any money with your musical skills? Did you prefer singing?

I made some money, because I was a violin teacher in high school. I mostly got a lot of college credit. My parents wanted me to get a music major, my teacher wanted me to go professional and go to Juilliard but I wanted to become a prek-3 teacher, so I did that. I’m happy with my life choices, though. I think I got burned out with being a musician so young and until a young adult, tbh.

I understand burnout. I’m glad you did what you wanted. I was still very immature and really didn’t know what I wanted. So, I just went with the flow.

Yah, thankfully my parents let me do what I want once I was in college. Do you have regrets?

I played the violin for 5 years as a child. I could play anything well…but only if someone else tuned the instrument for me! I absolutely had no ear for my playing and couldn’t tell when my strings were in tune. I was kind of happy when we moved to another state where the school had no orchestra…I ended up hocking my violin for a $100.

I just wish I had had more confidence.
