When I was in jail

Yeah they gave me all my stuff back when they took me to the hospital.

I’m so sorry, @anon47703785. I’ve never been in jail or seen inside of a real prison, so it’s not something I understand very well. But I’m still so sorry this happened to you.

I forgot to say they didn’t let me shower either.

My cousin has the best/worst jail story.

She got arrested at night in rural Georgia on suspicion of DUI by two male cops.

When they got to the jail,

There were no female officers.

The two arresting cops strip searched her, made her do all sorts of humiliating and unnecessary “checks” and never allowed her clothing back.

She stayed in a cell for hours before she was allowed to contact anyone.

After an ordeal of getting out she sued the county and the officers specifically.

Got like a million dollars plus out of the whole deal.

It was on the news!

Oh, and they never formally tested her for alcohol so they couldn’t prove the DUI.

It was messed up, but she really feels she got the last laugh.

Wow, terrible about the strip search but great for her for getting the million+!

She was very happy for the money.

This was back in the late 90s before body cams and such.

And less accountability.

They (the cops) probably did stuff like that all the time.

Just happened to picked the wrong lady that day.

I hear banjos… Anybody else?

Geez, that’s harrowing though— glad your cousin got the last laugh :+1:.

It was not far from where they filmed Deliverance.

Well, most of it.

I believe some was filmed in Tennessee too.

Not sure.

But anyway, everyone in our small town had pictures with John Voight and Burt Reynolds from back in the 70s.

It was a creepy place.

Deliverance people be real up in those mountains.

I’ve seen them.

I have never been to jail. The closest I got was my detox experience last November when they put me in a locked unit. Some guy wanted to kick my azz all bc I offered a person that wasn’t my race some candy.

Jc!

My younger bro spent six months in prison when he was younger but has turned his life around since. He also has prison tattoo’s.

I’ve never been to jail but the locked psych hospital I was involuntarily committed to was like being in jail.
I even faced a judge in court while I was there, and had a court appointed attorney to represent me.

I had to go in front of a judge after I went to the psych ward after I was in jail and I got involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital. I spent two months there then had to spend four months in an MSHS (Minnesota Specialty Health System).

I’ve been forcibly arrested twice and spent two nights in the cells. One time I was so drunk I spat on the arresting female officer. I have no criminal record only one spent conviction for throwing the cell suit down the cell toilet - criminal damage £28 fine.

I ended up locked in a youth offenders prison for a month in the hospital wing before a Crown Court judge let me out on appeal…

Pretty soon after I ended up back in a forensic community ward

Not a nice place!

Safe to say that since I have had treatment rather than discipline, somehow I have not broken the law since…

Guess that anecdote goes some way to showing that youth hitting the justice system may need help

I am lucky the Crown Court judge recognised the poor performance of the magistrate judge and got me the treatment I needed.

Yeah I started drinking coffee the day after I got out of jail when I was in the psych ward.

I’m glad you were able to get the treatment you needed. It took me two years to get help after I first got sick in August 2013 because I didn’t know there was help available. My dad made an appointment for me to see a psychiatrist in September 2015 because he could see I was getting frustrated but I ended up in the psych ward instead and got diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on meds.

I was self medicated for about 6 years before I got help. Then when I got out of the system, it took another few years before I ended up back on a psych ward again…

This was by no means a quick solution, and I was put in a lot of danger through the lack of intervening

I had to do 24 hours in CamdenNJ and it sucked, I was in a check in/check out cell so I saw them all coming and goin, the guys leaving were like top of the world eh, the guys coming in kinda didn’t know what was what, I remember one guy they kept calling him some name, turned out it was slang for three years, no parole. Harsh. Thank God they let me out.
