Whats worse? Irritability or negative symptoms?

I did that too when I was off meds. My parents fixed the holes.

" Commonly reported side effects of risperidone include: agitation, akathisia, anxiety"

I got symptomatic when switching risperdone from 3 Mg to 2 mg

I think I also lost insight

Be careful

if by irritability you mean akathisia, then i am afraid i cannot give you an answer as both are a nightmare equally

They’re two different things. By irritability I mean susceptibility to get angry. More easily triggered to be angry etc

The anger and downright meanness of irritability is way worse than negative symptoms in my book. With negative symptoms I can always push through and force myself to do things if I try hard enough. But putting up with someone’s cruel irritability should be illegal. @Aziz

Maybe your agitation comes from the side effect of risperidone,I remember when I was on 4 mg risperidone I was easily agitated as well

No the opposite, off meds I am much more irritable than on meds.

Did you taper it off slowly or cold turkey it to experience that? there is a need to taper 10% per 1-2 months for antipsychotic or you will experience mood swing/irritability

I’d say irritability.

? Why taper if I am on meds?

i mean when you went off or reduce meds, did you taper off them?

I developped anger issues before being on any psych med.

hmm, maybe those are your real emotions and could have nothing to do with your illness, schizophrenics are not known to be violent, they might have mood swings though.

Antipsychotics dull emotions because they block dopamine everywhere in the brain if the dosage is too high. Its up to you whether you want your emotion gone or not, but I think the emotions could be tempered in other ways like talk therapy, exercising, eating a healthy diet, meditation and taking a cold shower from time to time

Not true, from what my Dr told me and from what I read online sz can cause irritability and aggression.

The tendency for agitation to lead to violent behavior is compounded if substance abuse is involved.

that is true, people who take substances are more likely to be violent. However, if I were you, I would try to not rely too much on antipsychotics to control my emotions because that’s not what they are designed to do. Take a medicine that manages your emotions instead? like a benzo for anxiety etc.

There a multiple medicines for mood disorder or to control mood like lithium, benzo, antidepressants

Its the only way that worked. Before sz I didn’t have anger or irritability issues. They started with the sz.

If you’re physically attacking your brothers on 3mg then that dose is probably too low.
