What would you do?

I’ve wondered about a situation where I had to give first aid to a woman, and I needed to treat for shock. One of the things you’re supposed to do when you treat for shock is loosen all restrictive clothing. That could look bad if it was a man treating a woman for shock. You’d probably have to loosen her bra and unzip the front of her pants. It would be very easy for someone to get the wrong idea. What would you do in this situation?

There’s a saying that goes:

To the pure in heart all things are pure.

My gynecologist was a man but he was a good man and I never felt uncomfortable around him ever. Do what you have to do.

I doubt a bra or pants would be restrictive enough to make a difference.

You’d do better by just calling EMS.

I guess. I’ve never worn a bra, but I think it can be pretty serious in some cases if you don’t treat for shock.

I’m just saying it would probably be best to leave any undressing to EMS,

You could get in trouble for taking off a woman’s clothes.

Even if you were trying to help.

You’re right. The best thing is to call 911 as quickly as possible. If they’re slow, ask if there are any nurses or doctors around, and let them handle it.

If you call 911 they should be able to walk you through step by step what to do. You may not have to do what you fear you will have to do.

How many women are you going to run into who go into shock? It’s like worrying about an engine falling off a jet and landing on your roof or worrying about a mass killer shooting you while you’re in McDonalds eating a Big Mac. Stuff like that is very rare and the chances of the average Joe Blow going about their daily routine and coming across someone even once in their lifetime who goes into shock is extremely uncommon.

Former lifeguard here;

There’s an acronym when it comes to treatment for shock.

W - Warmth
A - ABC (airway, breathing, circulation)
R - Rest and reassure.
T - Treatment (EPI pen, medicine etc; if applicable)
S - Semi prone position.

In no way would you loosen clothing for someone going through shock. They need warmth. You give them something warm and apply your body heat to theirs.

The only time you would readjust clothing is if there is no pulse and they aren’t responsive.

I would be proud if I could do any first aid what so ever.

I think I could freeze and be unable to take action and just be too terrified plus I’m a coward I think.

I want to be able to give first aid or do something at least but am worried I may be unable.hopefully I could atleast call 000.

In first aid courses they teach you something about different cultures such as Muslim woman might not want you touching them even to save their life😮can’t remember what we learnt or if you required consent so you don’t get sued.

Awful someone can sue you for trying to save their life.
Really horrid.
