What was the best time of your life?

My father was working at the British embassy there.

Never had a best time of my life. Something has always been off.

Best time in one’s life can mean relative to one’s life. Unfortunately that’s not what people have in mind.

Everyone likely had the best time of their life at some point relatively to their own life. It just might be so mundane that they don’t realize what it was…

@Pandy you were in a working band? That’s awesome. My friend Bob has made a go as a musician before as well, played with Ronnie Hawkins and guys like that.

I’ll bet you have a lot of interesting Tales to tell, LOL

Summer of 2017, i was in a noise rock band in my hometown and there were a lot of other really cool musicians, we were doing shows literally every week at least, sometimes more than that. I got to hang out with my two favorite people (my bandmates) every day and never had to be lonely. I still got paranoid and ran away from them but it was the only time that i could always come back without a problem. But people moved away or died and i havent been able to resurrect the magic of that summer. You can bet that ive tried though.

As a kid, it was fourth and fifth grade. It was my last innocent time, I had lots of friends; we played and rode our bikes and school was easy and the biggest trouble we got into was shoplifting penny candies from the local drugstore.
I moved the next year and and it was a big change. It started off with friends who were into vandalism and then it was breaking into classrooms after school or egging houses and stealing, and smoking and drinking among other things. It was different but fun, but life got a little serious.

As an adult, it was when I was in my 30’s. I was living in a board & care home but I worked the entire 5 years I was there and attended college on my days off. I had just gotten clean and eventually was going to 5 or 6 AA meetings a week. I went to AA, CA and NA functions and knew a lot of people in the program.

On weekends I did fun stuff with my family or with a friend from the group home. I played on a baseball team for 4 months, I used to go to restaurants all the time by myself. I had money, I was pretty independent even though I was living in a board & care. I was always going to picnics and barbecues and parties with my sisters or taking Amtrak to Sacramento to visit my dad. I flew back east a few times for vacations and those were always fun. Those were my most productive years, I had fun.

There are two periods in my life stand out. The summer when I was seventeen, I could do no wrong, I had a large group of friends who I all like, did a lot of partying, but could have fun without

And the year after I broke my neck, believe it or not. The healing process was so incredible, it was like being high all the time. High on life. I would almost… Almost… Go through it again

Were you on any pain meds? I remember taking codeine pills my Dr prescribed after surgery, it made me high I was dancing and singing alone all night while listening to music. He wanted to prescribe morphine but I was scared of becoming addicted so I told him I want something less addictive and he said codeine.

Thanks! It really was. And I also sang on several other projects, did a couple of jingles, recording, etc.

Sadly, a lot of my tales revolve around how badly women get treated in the rock music world.

There’s always the last time for all kinds of things.

Actually, I had no doctor at the time and it has become so ridiculously difficult to get pain medication for people who need it, I was simply eating marijuana 2 manage pain for the most part. Like large amounts. Except of course when they took the plate out of my arm Then the surgeon gave me Oxycontin for one week

But I also took three hot baths a day once I could climb the stairs again, and that helped a lot with pain. Bath salts can remove lactic acid from your muscles that buildup from exercise. That’s what causes the pain .

But it wasn’t that kind of high. It was a new appreciation for life. It was kind of like the story of The Scrooge, realizing how beautiful life really is. Unfortunately, then I crashed and burned after about a year and three months, man that was brutal. I had severe injuries, I lost 57 lb in 3 days while in a coma. It was a pretty nasty accident

i do long hot baths for general health and immunity in the absence of sauna access. sometimes i overdo it, so one needs to be careful.

When you just broke your neck, nothing but relief matters. Now I just have a hot tub

No doubt!! Sometimes I regret not going through the gigging experience. I’ve been onstage a couple dozen times, but never made a living from it.

Glad you got the chance to live the dream!

Sorry to hear about the mistreatment. Yeah, it seems in some areas of life things are slower to change.

Thanks!

I’m not done, though. I’m going to find my way back into it as soon as I get more stable/past my depression and can start training my voice again. I might only be able to do it on a local level for the rest of my life, but I have to do something.

Awesome, good for you. I would love to hear your voice sometime. I do my own recordings and have a Studio here at the house.
