What tricks do you use to get yourself to do things you don't want to do?

and my mom always comments she finds it funny

uf

That’s actually pretty funny. I’m wondering how big this room is?

I try and put myself in the area where the thing is, so if I want to run I prepare all my stuff and get my shoes on. If i wanna do homework I sit down on my bed or at the computer with my book in front of me. So far it’s been working. It also helps me to think about my brother and all the high functioning people out tjere who do 10 times what I do in a day week in and week out. In a sense I try and be competitive in life.

That might work for me about sewing - get everything out and ready to go.

First make a trail of reeses pieces to the room where the chore is. Then set the room up to lock on you as soon as you cross the threshold. Finally, take a nap. It’s a foolproof plan.

I get easily overwhelmed by the number of things I need to do, so now I take it only one task at a time. I try to get at least one productive thing done every day. Then, when I finish, I see if I have the energy to do one more. Usually, I can manage three or four productive tasks a day. I try not to beat myself up when I can’t accomplish a task, because that just leaves me feeling defeated and worthless, and it makes it even harder to do tomorrow’s task.

It’s kind of like riding a motorcycle into a curve, where your focus is, the motorcycle follows.
If your looking down at the pavement in front of you, there’s where you’ll end up. You have to fix you focus where you want to be, like at the end of the curve (and upright) and naturally, the rest will follow.

For me it’s all about how the task is worded to whether or not I do it or find something else to procrastinate with instead.
I like to think about what the end goal is, and picture what it is that I want from doing the task, and when I know the end goal, the tasks seem to follow naturally.

Like washing the dishes, I picture a sparkling clean sink sans dishes, and a clean counter top, and that makes me start to think about what I could cook for dinner without shuffling through the mess in the kitchen. It also makes it seem effortless to serve said dinner if I know there are clean plates to serve it on.

i remind myself that i am “lazy”. that way i push myself to do what has to be done.

It is very easy to do something when there is a clear eye catching incentive. Very very true…

I just remembered something - thinking “You’ll be glad you did.”

Same here. I try to do one productive thing a day too. They all start to add up.
