I would give any schizophrenic a good tip. Probably $5 at least. They have it rough. But wait I’m a schizo too. And jobless. No tip then.

What a great question you’ve asked. I guess I’d advise the sz to “let go”. Never go where the symptoms want to take you. Sometimes, the symptoms seem “fun” or “desirable”. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy a grandiose delusion? Hey, sometimes we think we could even save the whole world! It’s a delusion. Never go with symptoms. Dismiss them immediately. Ignore completely. It’s easier when the symptoms are ugly, harder when the symptoms feel good.

There’s a better life. Know it. Trust it. Live it. Make your best decisions and never be swayed by the pull of symptoms. Take it one day at a time. Make today as good as you can, don’t worry about tomorrow. Plan tomorrow, but don’t worry about it.

Get help. Talk to people here. Talk to others who know this game. Study recovery literature. Build spirituality. Stay positive no matter what. If you have a bad day, get right back in and keep going strong. Pray for and with the rest of us, all across the world.

Relax. Enjoy. See beyond your conditioning to the reality of an amazing horizon of possibility and goodness. And meditate, if you can. Bring goodness and love to every circumstance. Your good karma is a reality.

This may sound counter-intuitive, but be grateful. Never lose hope, have a sense of humor, and remember it’s always darkest before the light.

pro-tip: don’t do things that might make you uncomfortable, unless you’ve got a plan: (make a shopping list before shopping, carry headphones before visiting stores / malls, write out your destinations before leaving home: “I have to go to destination A, then destination B, then destination C,” write or remember your purpose of doing a certain activity from talking with friends to reading a book,

always carry an extra one, in case your partner didn’t carry any. :dark_sunglasses: )

The best tip i can give well actually there is a few.

  1. Be good to your family. They want the best for you and you will need to lean on them when the going gets tough.

  2. Try to stay positive. I think this is the most important one. Staying positive is really tough when your not working but focus on the good things, like how tasty food is.

  3. Work. Get a job almost any kind of job. I have a lot of negative symptoms but recently I have been working and its done the world of good for me. Try to get something to fill your day with. Volunteering works as well. You’ll pick up a reference and you’ll get work experience so definitely if you can do it, do some volunteering.

Hope this helps.

I would say when in doubt don’t react to things if something seems unusual or out of place or if someone says something that you don’t like. Your better off not reacting it could be the sz or it’s probably not worth getting worked up about. Just dismiss it.

Also you are not a schizophrenic. You are not your disease you just happened to have schizophrenia. Or better yet a thought disorder.

Your screwed buddy No seriously don’t expect perfection, you may fully recover but it’s unlikely, only go on disability if you absolutely have too, be as functional as you can or at least strive for it. Do activities but don’t overdo them, and take breaks at times. You are probably not going to die except by your own hands. Take your meds but learn to cope with the voices that remain, try to play with your voices some, if they don’t go away after a few years accept that they always will be around, but don’t trust them in your decision making because they are unreliable. Remember that no one can really read your mind or at least no one will admit it if they can and nothing discussed with them really happened. And take vacations if you are able to.

Yeah, #1 Steamboat Charlie is favored to win first place in the seventh race by a length. His trainers feed him a special formula of oats and vitamins. Keep it under your hat though and don’t tell anyone.

#2 Don’t eat the yellow snow.

Take calculated risks to reach your goals, start out by taking small steps and work your way up to the more difficult goals. Don’t fight the people who are trying to help you, you are all on the same side. DON’T DO DRUGS. It will derail your life sure enough. Check out websites that list “relapse prevention in schizophrenia”. be aware that you can’t accomplish everything you want but you can sure still get something out of life. DON’T DO DRUGS. I know I said it twice; it’s because its that important.

Have some fun every now and then. Get a relief for a half hour between your suffering. Take a walk, go early to see a movie at a theater when there’s hardly anyone in it. Its too easy to dwell on your problems all day and everyday. Just force yourself to do something fun even if you don’t enjoy it a 100 % just so you can tell yourself, “Man, I went out and did it!”

Watch comedy clips of movies or stand-up comics to cheer you up for a few minutes.

Make lists. Write in a journal. Keep touch with supportive people. Have a pet. Walk in nature. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Stick to your meds. And never lose hope.
