What shall I use for drawing?

I have decided that I want to do some drawing on paper. I’m just wondering what I should choose for drawing tools. Pens, pencils, crayons, markers? I want a lot of different colors. What should I choose?

Oil pastels are great!

I second oil pastels, but since they weren’t an option, are the pencils colored pencils? If so, I vote for them. They generally blend better than crayons of markers.

Cool I will check out oil pastels. Yeah the penciled are colored. I was thinking maybe a fineliner for the lines then color it with colored pencils, I don’t know if that will work. I guess it will.

Please share when you are done, if you are comfortable doing so.

There’s also felt tip pens. They’re quite bold.

Prisma color makes really nice colored pencils. They blend well. :sauropod::sauropod::sauropod:

For me, cost would be a consideration.

@Zoe did you go to art school to learn drawing? Are there any exercises I can do to improve? I have a hard time with perspective. My drawings always seem flat.

I did art at scholl from 16 to 18 as a module

Hm. I dunno. I just draw what I see tbh. :flushed:

Generally stuff in the distance looks smaller.

It’s hard to teach without being with you irl.

Maybe you’re not that bad

Do you have a drawing you can share with us?

this I drew on the computer with a tablet. The perspective is maybe not good, its not really realistic, which kind of is a style in itself I guess. But I’d like to learn to draw good perspective.

Hmm I’m not sure how to draw on a computer myself. But it’s not bad this drawing.!

Will you continue using computer or do on paper?

I will continue on paper, I think that’s more fun since on the tablet you don’t draw directly on the screen. Gonna buy some colored pencils… I don’t know what I’ll use for the lines yet, maybe just a gray pencil.

Hb pencils work really well. Once you get better, maybe try graphite pencils. They are especially good for shading, tonal variety. Good luck.

I’m honestly not that good.

It’s just sometimes my drawings turn out OK.
