What’s a book you were required to read in high school or secondary school?

A few I remember reading were:

Animal Farm - George Orwell
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
Ethan Frome - Edith Wharton
The Good Earth - Pearl S. Buck
On the Road - Jack Kerouac
The Scarlett Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
The Joy Luck Club - Amy Tan
Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad

I remember a lot more than I thought I would.

I was in high school from 1996 to 2000.

Shakespeare. Lots of Shakespeare. I fell in love with it right away and continue to read the playwright to this day. Lots of awesome movies based on his plays that I also love.

I disliked all of Shakespeare other than Julius Caesar.

I liked the black and white movie version of Till kill a mockingbird bird better than the book.

But one that I didn’t like at first that grew on me was Fahrenheit 451. I love this book now.

I remember in my high school English classes we read a lot of Shakespeare and the book, The Catcher in the Rye.

I find the latter a little funny in hindsight as that is a favorite book among lots of serial killers and criminals. I think there’s even an article about that online.

Yeah! I knew there was a famous killer who loved that book.

There was this real creepy serial killer from Kansas City, Missouri who was obsessed with the book, The Collector. He even studied the book when it came to stalking and kidnapping his victims.
